I bought Chromaphone the minute I'd listened through the demos and now I'm disappointed. 
The sound is wonderful. The playability is great.
But…
NO MIDI LEARN!
At least none that I can find, and a search through the manual yields no mention of it.
I find it just incredible. The controls are glitch free and I can have all sorts of fun mousing with them. But apparently there's no way to connect them with sliders on my controller.

Parameter automation after the fact is no consolation. This instrument was made for hands on interaction!
Please, AAS, give us MIDI learn in a 1.0000…1 update! Before Xmas, please!

That's my guess. I just wish they were more upfront about it. re. MIDI Learn, the original Collision relies on Live's MIDI learn for hooking to a performance controller. I guess this is something they would need to add from scratch to a plug in version, and they'ce obviously yet to do so...
Can the plug in run as an effect? For me the coolest aspect of Collision is actually using the modelled resonators/etc as the separate Corpus effect device... Great for mangling drum loops and stuff...

I got my chromophone, it's going to be sweet. I think the sound just suits my more classically trained ears, wuff wuff.
I'v been a happy user of Tassman 4, String Studio and Ultra analog for the last 2 years. What I find is the AAS sounds light, and responsive and work well in complicated arrangements, Heavy cream plugs are impressive at first. But harder to work into a mix. So I'm really happy to see AAS moving forward with a new Plug.. I note that it is like the included plug in Live Suite. But I prefer my tools to not be married to a specific host. I'm not a Livanian as yet.
Some points I note right away:
The Chromophone interface encourages experimentation.
Midi Learn isn't there but the parametres are availble as modulation sources in Numerology Pro, This also means If I should want to make a patch using a midi transform module I can get access to aftertouch as well.
I can get to the parameters and route my sliders and knobs wheels pedals or whatever using the Numerology paramod modules..
The interface is clear and easy to understand, yet there is a huge amount of parameteres to tweek. Quite a feat.
Sound quality is what I like about physical modelling responive nuanced, sophisticated..
The reverb is sweet, useful and sound good.
If all goes well I'll likely hop on the 89$ deal.
I'm sure it'll get used, it would also be good as a teaching tool for explaining model based synthesis.
The AAS plugs I already have are perhaps already more than enough for what I do. But the fact that this is 64 bit on the MAC means I'll be able to get that AAS sound into my 64 bit working enviroment, this is at present one of the critieria for following the multicore music computer develpment.
I would have bought other stuff, but Chromophone got in the way....

The key (pun intended) to microtuning is the incredibly versatile KEY function, present in both Resonators - you can leave these at their default 1:1 setting for standard tuning, but pulling them gradually down will result in a host of microtuning settings, all the way down to 0:1 (where every note has the same pitch).Borealis wrote:I could live without pitch bend, but aftertouch and microtuning certainly would be most useful.
