But every single parameter is visible to automation, which means you can map it to your hardware controller using any automation based mapping, which is far more useful than midi learn. For example Novation automap, NI Kore, or any DAW control surface mapping like Ableton's instant mapping, Studio One mapping to hardware, logic mapping etc.Spitfire31 wrote:I bought Chromaphone the minute I'd listened through the demos and now I'm disappointed.
The sound is wonderful. The playability is great. But…
NO MIDI LEARN!![]()
At least none that I can find, and a search through the manual yields no mention of it.
I find it just incredible. The controls are glitch free and I can have all sorts of fun mousing with them. But apparently there's no way to connect them with sliders on my controller.![]()
Parameter automation after the fact is no consolation. This instrument was made for hands on interaction!
Please, AAS, give us MIDI learn in a 1.0000…1 update! Before Xmas, please!
Oh yes - aftertouch too, please…

I'd suggest mapping hardware this way. It has the advantage of being able to record automation directly to the parameter (rather than having it as a midi message which is sending to the parameter). Not to mention two-way control signals if you're using certain control systems.

I mentioned in my previous post that I found a way to modulate my Demo version of Chromaphone..Echoes in the Attic wrote:But every single parameter is visible to automation, which means you can map it to your hardware controller using any automation based mapping, which is far more useful than midi learn. In Numerology I have always done my modulating using dedicated parameter modulation modules instead of Midi Learn, This has advantages for example I get clear visual/textual feedback of whats being modulated as I can label the modules with texts that make sense for the effect I'm after..Automap also has knob labelling on the HUD.
Midilearn though is good for quick assignments on the fly though, so it would be a plus for many users if it was implemented..

Thanks....
I wanted midi learn also...I know I could have used a DAW to modulate it but that seemed too slow. However, it is a gorgeous sounding instrument...

Cool - I wrote to support asking about aftertouch, pitchbend and alternative tunings and they tell me they are all planned for - they have had a lot of requests about microtuning and say it's not hard to add. Those 3 things are really needed to make it as expressive as it should be.

A more oriental demo with 2 instances - just made this strange cembalolike patch that also sounds a bit like a flute when played soft - and some saturated drums to go with it - Phomazone is such an inspiring instrument...

Reposting this from the Ableton forum:
poonti wrote: I emailed AAS asking about the difference in the sound engine between Collision and Chromaphone:

You are right that the two
instruments are similar. The big difference is that with Chromaphone
we are introducing coupling algorithms that allow us to take into
account the interaction between resonators. In Collision they are
passive meaning that the signal from one is fed directly to the other.
This does not change drastically the tone but make the instruments
much more natural and realistic. The preset library is also completely
different.

Ironically Tassman is frustrating because it has midi learn but no host automation.

I'm constantly amazed by the intelligent conversation that goes on here-you guys have taught me a lot, and inspired me. Thanks!
AAS would be well-served to hang out here. Do they even have their own forum here at KVR? If they do, I don't see it. We need to scream in their ears about the lack of midi learn.
Having said that, even in it's present state, it's still so f*cking cool

i still don't understand why they left all this empty space in the gui? the dark grey part has a big empty strip that goes all the way across the gui
they could have easily stretched the pale grey window that has all the knobs to make it bigger vertically and kept all the knobs to scale w/one another (but also made them bigger) and that'd help my old person eyes when it comes to looking at the modulation stuff and tiny font.

I have to admit, I listened to the demos on the website and wasn't impressed at all. However, I tried the demo version and my attitude completely changed. I especially like how present and bright the metallic timbres are, whilst not being harsh or grainy. I'm also impressed by the versatility of sounds on offer. Well done AAS.
