Not exactly like Nebula.
The fact that you have to specify, before you start profiling, what type of amp it is(clean or dirty) shows that there is a basic amp sim already there that gets
tweaked to sound like the amp you are "cloning"

get the manual it explaines the profiling a bit more :

The kemper allows you to profile guitar amp sims :) Pod HD, Axe FX 1/2, Amplitube... all in one box now! :)

For the same price as buying all the sims. ;)

sims are disrespectful to guitar players...many guitar players appreciate them (including myself) but they offer no appreciation in return...while with a decent tube amp it may take a while but they at least stand a chance of showing some appreciation.

of course all of the above was pure tongue and cheek

That would sell like hotcakes IMO. Yeah, I went there. HOTCAKES!
Well, since you brought it up... when was the last time you bought a hotcake?
You got me. I have never bought a hotcake in my life. :(
Excuse me while I go cry into my pillow.

come to think of it, I've never really had "hot" cakes before either. They've been warm sometimes..........but not hot

The Axe FX is just a little bit more expensive than the kemper :)

Say what you want about sims but one of the best aspects is that they are plugins and thus can be changed around. This and the axe fx are like a standard pod right.......the input is what it is?

Exactly. I see it as very flexible tool for playing live.

Yeah, yeah..... it all sounds fine on paper.... now let me play it.
1 hour and I will know if it's all that or just a waste of money.

Actually I don't even care if it can clone my amp, it just needs to sound and feel like a real amp.... something that inspires me to play and play and play.

I received the Kemper Profiling Amp on 12-14-11. YAY! :)

For the record I have a 'bedroom' studio that is VERY humble.

Right out of the box I came up with these tracks in an attempt to sort of showcase it?

This first track is just clean jazzy guitar influenced by my life long hero-Wes Montgomery. I've always felt that good guitar tone starts with good clean 'warm' tone? And up till now it has been elusive.

I'm playing a Fender Stratocaster straight into the Kemper with ONLY a bit of Kemper's reverb (which is outstanding).

The Fender Jazz bass too is put through the Kemper-not sure if I should have but-I was curious?

To my ears and fingers the Kemper just feels/sounds good-like a real amp. It doesn't feel/sound digital to me. And it just works with out fuss. Plug and go.

Another thing I noticed is that it seems to record hot-even clean tones. In other words after I record the file looks phat?

Higher quality:

This next track is a sort of cheesy cliché Rock & Roll jam via Ableton Live? I am not really that into Rock anymore but it's hard not to be with this beast? I'm not interested in a tone that's TOO polished? The old school Rock cats still catch my ears-SRV, Hendrix, Beck, Clapton and the like?

I'm randomly going through some of the patches (or profiles) that come with it...

I think this video is showing how boring Kemper is - one knob and one button is all that is touched.

What is the rest for?

What I feel is missing is getting the full amp tweaking in there.

When moving one knob it should resemble something close doing the real deal.

Thinking that

a) a servo easiliy applied at each knob on original amp(there are such remote controls to make your not remote stereo having remote volume control etc).
b) you select corresponding knob i Kemper
c) do the profiling for that knob, going from 1-11(or whatever).
d) repeat b)and c)for every knob there is a corresponding one on original amp just moving the servo to next knob.

Then you can get the characteristics of the stack and make it tweakable if doing this for all knobs in the original amp.

Yes, it would take maybe 30 minutes for a stack profiling instead - but it would really be unique.

At this stage you will have mapped the entire stack and it's tweaking options.

Make it possible to preset any setting in Kemper to recall from a floorboard.

Go through and map all the main amp and cabinets like there is in Line6 POD-series.

Release Kemper Universal Stack, with the basic engine without the recording abilities, but all the presets - and making it possible to add presets with new stuff as it becomes available.

Make Kemper Universal Stack $1000 or whatever the Line6 POD Pro is and similar rack mount and I think we have a winner.

There would be a major demand for such a unit.

The guitarists endless search for new hot sound combinations and finding what would fit a certain song would have found the platform to base it on. We guitarplayers love to do that.

And the big advantage these days - Kemper is hardware. It's nothing you could fileshare. So the investment would come back to inventors.

That's how I see it. :)

Didnt Waves do a plugin that captured a static profile of any eqpt a while back?
