I purchased Massiva back in December when I realized Muzys was 'dead'. I really liked it for MIDI but XT is now the .wav of the future so I'm rolling with it.

I also picked up FL Studio & Reaktor which are both just tremendous fun.

I am looking at getting Tracktion next to replace my very old friend, ACID (plus it works on Macs... watch out for some mind-bending Metasynth comps coming soon).

Tracktion is great, but it cant do all the looping stuff like Acid (yet). If you need something like Acid for Mac you should check out Apple Soundtrack. :)

Oh, really? Darn... I was under the impression it could. What isn't implemented?
Tracktion has time/pitch-shifting + enveolpe control.
Acid has the 'chopper' + the abiltity to 'tune' the entire song to a certain key.

I'm curious as to the differences?

Dont get me wrong, Tracktion deals with loops very well. But Acid is specifically built for loops. You cant "paint" a loop in Tracktion like you can on Acid. When you put a loop in Tracktion it doesnt automatically fit it to time. Although all you have to do is alt-drag the loop to fit. Also Tracktion's time stretch is not as good as Acid's. I'm sure Tracktion's time stretch algo with improve in T2.

Ah.... that helps. I suppose I should give the two a loop-to-loop comparison and see if I can live with it. I do have a fairly large Acid CD collection so that's an investment I want to keep getting returns on. i'll just have to fire up the Tracktion edmo and check it out.

Thanks again... Scott

then I recommend you one of the cakewalk products -
they have sequencers in every priice category and
all are acid-compatible and the inexpensive ones are better value for money than Tracktion.

Thanks for the tip... I like Tracktion because it will run on both PC & Mac... I use both environments.
I used CMuzys in Mac alot and would have been happy with the 3.1 version in OS9 but no go.
I want a host which works on both platforms (even though FL Studio is PC is't just so much fun I couldn't resist).

Is this true, regarding value, when you also figure in the cost of a vst/dx wrapper??

Wow, I've been gone for a month and look what I come back to!

I know it's a little after the fact but here's my $0.02:
I really like Muzys, but it's limitations are becoming increasingly apparent. To me, I think the only way I'll stick with muzys as my main app is if it gets some badly needed updating. But these are things that we've all talked about before. I have to say, I'm more than a little disappointed at the cryptic responses that we're getting. If I can say one thing, Jo, please keep in contact with us at least on a fairly regular basis. This whole trouble could have been avoided if there was communication happening. I want to keep supporting muzys, as many others do, but it's impossible if we're kept in the dark and don't know if and when updates are coming.

Anyways, I hope that we can rekindle the energy of the forum that was present this time last year.

You guyz should try out the beta of the new program "Podium". I am absolutely LOVING it so far. It has some things in common with Muzys, but it is definately a different beast. But if you are really abandoning ship, you owe it to yourself (IMHO) to give it a try.

I was going to buy Muzys3, but couldn't and ended up getting eXT. I still haven't made a song in it. I still wish I could have Muzys. That wish is fading with the possibility that some big bloated company will take it over and wreck it, and charge 400 bucks etc. I would still consider buying it, if the store was open, but only if there was a weekly hello,-I'm-not-dead from jo. No promises. I get the feeling that aside from the occasional gripe, most Muzys users are more concerned with the "if" than the "when". Just a little note that didn't sound so damn cryptic, once a week, wouldn't that do it for you guyz? With that, I would buy it (if the store would let me)
Well, I really hope for the best for Muzys. It really is one of the best things to happen to computer music making in a long time. The mix of linear and pattern based is so perfect. It has just the right amount of its Atari roots still intakt to make it better than so many others. Damn it! Now I am getting anxious again!
