I like TAL's Bitcrusher, but it's not quite what I'm after.

The lofi/bitcrushing effect on Haevyocity's Evolve series is what I'm really after, as it manages it without any crude aliasing noises.

What do people recommend?

Cheers,
Matt

I like these free ones.

Morfiki Redupcer A complete Lofi, despite if it's Synthedit or not.
ToneBoosters TimeMachine A Lofi itself.
2Rule Filter A filter with Lofi capabilities.
DBlue Glitch A FSU with Lofi capabilities.
Also Tal-BitCrusher as you said.

I hope some of them works for you. Give them a try.

Have a good day :)

Try oversampling TAL's Bitcrusher and go for it again.

EVOLVE utilizes Kontakt's internal FX for messing up stuff, maybe this is the whole to to everything.

There's another bitcrusher called "LoFi" by Subtek, but this one's pretty old as well.

mda Degrade has a few options.

I still use Tobybear Decimator and Soundhack +decimate. VCS Elite Reducer 2 is another good one with a somewhat different sound.

I find messing with dynamics, dithering, reverb, detuning, ring modulation on the input, and even splitting into multiple bands for separate processing, can make bitcrushing and decimation really shine.

i'm a big fan of CMT Bitcrusher. it's gote a very raw, edgy sound.

I've always liked Kontakt's (and Battery's) bit crusher. I'm not sure if it's the same, but Traktor's 12 has a lofi effect that doesn't require you to use Kontakt or Battery.

But my #1 recommendation would be D16 Decimort. Not free, but it's affordable and overall the best lofi/bit crusher I've found.

I agree, it has the most pleasing sound to my ears.

I also like the sound of Sonalksis' TBK2.
I'm kinda on the fence about D16 Decimort. I got it in the group-buy and liked it at first but I usually end up swaping it out for a TBK2 or +Decimate. If I'm in the mood fro some authentic grit (:hihi:), I'll run audio out of my computer into my Malgorithm or an old, lo-fi digital delay.

CMT has been my go to for 'standard' bitcrushing for years. There doesnt seem to be any extra flavoring on it.
But there are other flavored ones that are great too.
Decimort has its own sheen.
TBK can obliterate shit unlike others I have tried.
Metallurgy is tricked out. A must have if this is part of your sound.
I also keep HiLoFi's around. Free, multiband:

novaflash! Besides a cool bitcrusher he offers various other ubercool lofi FX!

floatcrusher is a good one for less common bitcrushing effects. sonitex is the best lofi effect ever on earth, but not free.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.
