Hi guys! Hi Jorgen!
if i play a sequence from a sequencer comp routing it's midi out to a vsti or to a sequencer-internal vsti and i move the sequencer's window i can hear click and pops in audio....
i must say that in a live-set enviroment it's often needed to arrange windows on screen...only moving the comps do the clicking/ popping ...movin other windows and the main energyxt window iself is flawlessy....i think anyway that this is an issue...hope that jorgen will look into...

Jorgen?...what do u think about?
...this is only with energyxt...other apps/plugs on my system does'nt suffer of that issue...so my system is well optimized...i've done all the audio winxp optimization...
thanx in advance

lalo, I'm not sure why this is happening. I'll have to look into it. Does it happen only with sa, or when you load xt into other host's too?

hi jorgen,

nothing has made regular flights more enjoyable than energyxt :-) it is extremely refreshing to finally be able to work in a less linear, more creative and immediate way and keep having the feeling that there are depths to be explored. also, very importantly, the core application's stability is outstanding.

i've experienced a possibly related issue to that mentioned above so perhaps worth bringing up the subject again as this one seemed to fizzle out.

i'm using registered 1.24/1.25b sa rather than vst. running on a samsung x10 1.6ghz centrino laptop (max cpu performance forced via speedswitch xp), xp pro, echo indigo and logitech usb mouse.

when dragging windows around zipper noise/glitching is apparent - heh, some might say a nice effect ;-)

energyxt cpu meter at say around 20% but when dragging windows it flickers to 100%.

this only happens when using the usb mouse (have tried a couple) and not the touchpad which normally would probably indicate hardware/driver/interrupt issues. also, increasing asio buffer size has little effect.

interestingly though it only happens when comp/plugin windows overlap the main energyxt window. it does not happen when the main window is dragged around. it does not happen when comp/plugin windows are dragged around without overlap or when they overlap other comp/plugin windows.

there's inevitably a combination of factors but it may simply be a fixable issue with the main energyxt window (threads, priorities, etc.)? it doesn't happen in other similar hosts/environments e.g. logic platinum, art teknika console (which i dusted off just for checking), etc.

any thoughts?

switching to feature request mode...

- window manager. it would be useful to perhaps have a window/layout manager with which to be able to hide/reveal windows, maybe set certain windows to be always on top.

- layouts. out of the window manager idea comes the possibility to create layouts - for example making it possible to switch between a "setup" layout where the main energyxt window is used and a "performance" layout where say the main energy xt window is not used but mixers and other comps are shown.

- cc automatable synchronizer/tempo/master transport controls. some of which have been mentioned already by others (and on todo list). maybe also some way for the synchronizer power button to act as a master start stop for all comps? maybe the synchronized comps only? maybe an alternative sync mode of "master" so as to choose which comps would be affected?

- wider or resizable cc map window. because e.g. large groups of fm7's parameters all end up looking the same as they are truncated by the drop down.

- midi feedback. some way of feeding back midi to previous components. e.g. an arpeggiator's output could be fed back to itself to selectively trigger it's own patterns. or how about a string of arpeggiators with patterns of differing lengths and speeds selectively altering each other's patterns via occasional notes. difficult to explain/visualize but opens up possibilities for evolving patterns - especially if there's a way to alter the feedback e.g. transpose via a cc controllable transformer :-) something for the midi transformation comp to allow? clearly there are tricky issues with feedback loops.

looking forward to the possibilities of cc triggered markers too!

cheers,
inigo

I just tested for the first time yesterday while out of town for work(away from my desktop)...and I get the same thing on my crappy old laptop(700Mhz) when I use a USB mouse...but not when I use the built in pointer.

just checked this on MY crappy lappie (amd duron 850) and am not seeing this at all ...

... using my USB trackball (or the built-in touchpad) i can move all sorts of windows around like crazy and the audio doesnt crackle AT ALL (the CPU meter isnt moaning either) ...

... must be a soundcard / drivers / latency / videocard issue ???

(for info - soundblaster mp3+ USB audio / usb-asio.de driver / 5.3 msec latency / trident hyperblade XP)

EDIT (extra info) - my USB audio is using the built-in USB 1.1 parts but all my other USB gear (trackball included) runs off a hub connected to a pcmcia USB 2 card

an update...

no problems with using asio4all (latest version) down to a buffer length of 128 samples (3ms) - with both usb mouse and touchpad and a novation remote25 connected via usb too. remarkable coding.

slightly annoying for that to perform better than dedicated audio hardware that's praised for it's excellent asio drivers and alas the sound quality from the laptop's internal "crystal" audio is far from ideal. generally never been successful with the indigo below a buffer size of 512 (12ms) and 1024 (23ms) feels better. that's both on the current fairly high spec samsung x10 machine or previously on a now ageing vaio.

clearly there's an issue at the hardware/driver layer between the echo indigo and other devices - pcmcia and usb controllers and possibly graphics card interactions.

but, the zipper noise is still generated in connection with only the main energyxt window as mentioned above and it doesn't occur with other similar applications so i'm still curious as to whether there is something that is fixable in the software.

Thanks for helping me pin this down. I'll try to set up one of my pc's with a usb muse and different audio drivers. It could as well be something I can fix in eXT.

hi jorgen,

just had a further thought today. might it be possible for energyXT to respect the windows "show window contents while dragging" setting in display properties? it doesn't at the moment and that might well help with the problems when dragging windows around in XT.

Hello Jorgen,

I got a new system set up now. And I am experiencing crackles all over the place. On my old vaio with the echo i/o I experienced the same crackling.

I am using the echo indigo i/o. Its a pcmcia card. I also have a shared memory graphics card. See details here ...

massiva and echo io ---> problems
http://www.em411.com/show/hardware/119/ ... dcard.html (http://www.em411.com/show/hardware/119/1/indigo_pcmcia_soundcard.html)

When using ASIO4ALL with the internal AC97 sound card I have no crackles.

My guess is that it is related to too pcmcia, shared memory and too many redraws of the gui. Strain on the system bus ... but I am just guessing.

I get this using Orion Platinum as well, so I'm thinking it's a sound card issue, or lack of..(quality)

Sickle, do you have an Echo soundcard? :?
