coffee cone spinner - rotary speaker

...and how to do so...

I'm working on another recycled junk project - a cheap and cheerful rotary speaker.

An old tape deck motor spins a coffee dripper over speaker. Speed is currently adjusted by a PC fan controller or switching the voltage on a wall wart. I need to make a proper PWM motor controller to go from 0~12V.

It's small and low powered. I'm using a Ruby amp driving a small Fostex speaker. http://www.runoffgroove.com/ruby.html

You went through a lot of trouble. The results are very nice though :)

That's genius.

it really is awesome, for speed control check this site

that link takes you to the site but not the page I was on but they do have motors and various speed control units

edit: correction...that's the right page you just have to scroll down ;)

Brilliant.

Thanks for the comments folks :D

I've been a little too busy with the dull duties of the 'real' world for a few weeks, so only just had a chance to work more on this. I've now done the enclosure up and made a proper control panel.

@Hink - thanks for the link. In fact I made a simple PWM circuit that I guess is rather similar to that kit. I already have a lot of components so I only needed a 555 timer chip and a pack of 5 costs about $1.50, so very cheap to make. Unfortunately, the motor I have is a little noisy when pulsing on and off, so either I need a more sophiticated circuit or some form of enclosure to block out the noise.

Here's some photos:

It's covered in blue vinyl table cloth - Poor-folks Tolex :)

I need to do some small cosmetic jobs to finish it off, especially the front needs work on the edges around the hole and the grill is temporary for now - just some plastic gardening mesh. I'm on the look out for something nicer.

Some updated audio and video to follow soon.
