Would you still buy Reaper if it will cost you as much as the other DAWs ?

It is really that great or is just because is what it is: Low Priced and forever demo...
I really tried to get going with it but I just can get comfortable, "Cozy", enough with it and way too many customizations, trying to cover it all.
Like an old Zen saying: The tighter the net the more holes you get.
What kind of DAW you have that eventually made you switch to Reaper. What's really there...

Through my 127 years of constantly buying/selling/demoing I settled on reaper quite by accident.
In fact, when I built this machine I used it in demo mode STRICTLY to "test" the system. But quite rapidly it grew and grew on me (plus features being added/updated very frequently in version 3 and one day it just clicked.
My experience has been nearly crash free, I can do virtually everything I could in other hosts (I don't use notation though) and everything more or less always worked.
Now it's been about 2 years and reaper just fits, and it works. The price was a no brainer but it wasn't the determining factor.

I find Reaper hard to approach due to the many options available to eventually do a very simple thing: making music. Maybe I'm old fashion but a simple workflow, a good mastering tools and most of the work it's done.
Why I read so many are switching from their long time DAW to Reaper. Again, because is affordable, an inexpensive new toy or the idea of Features over Feature that invites musicians to become wanderers in the land of DAWs away from the land of Music? That's why my question, Would they switch if it was "Another Expensive DAW?" or it's really that great.

Never go to France, there is WAY too many flavors for you! Actually you should stay away from Spain too. Last time I wen't to those places I nearly starved to death because the exotic menu's confused me and all breadstick appetizers with garlic dip made me sick to my stomach!!!!!!!liquidsound wrote:I find Reaper hard to approach due to the many options available to eventually do a very simple thing: making music. Would you drink the Kool Aid if it cost as much as champagne?

You will know if you demo and try things... something out there will work for you. Just seek it out.

I bought Reaper 3 separate times based on how much it and the Cockos business model impressed me. I never got around to doing any serious work with it though because I just love Cubase too much. If I had no choice however I would be more than happy to use Reaper.

I find Reaper really easy to approach. There are many options available, but I tend to ignore almost all of them, to eventually do a very simple thing: push the button and record software and hardware audio.I am old fashioned, and I have a simple mainly real-time work-flow, a few good mastering and analysis tools, some templates and hey presto, most of the work it's done, leaving me to find 'that' special note or chord or melody on the keyboards that I have been looking for.
I would certainly pay more money for Reaper, especially if it had a cool gui like Studio One .
It has never crashed on me, except once when trying to use software MS 20 bridged in the 64 bit version, which I didn't try again.

Long time Logic user here.
I tried Reaper about 3 years ago and didn't like it.
But I tried again about 2 years ago, and it slowly clicked...basically its about defining what actions you want to use and assigning them to hotkeys and custom Toolbars.
I customize it as I go...if I am working on a project and need to do a particular thing a lot and its not readily available, then I find the action I need or create a custom action and voila...there it is.
I can now do things quite easily I could never do in Logic, and my work is pretty complex, a lot of midi, audio and complex automation.
But it's not to say Reaper is perfect tho...it needs more work in the midi area and overall folder arrangements, area selection to name some areas, but having said that it fills my needs and I don't feel tempted to try any other DAW.
I will never go back to Logic...Reaper is a LOT better in my books and I used Logic for ever and knew it backwards
