The trick is to save just the patch, without saving the samples again. It'll find its needed samples when you tick "absolute sample paths".
I beg your pardon, but how exactly do you save a patch?
(I'm still new with Kontakt.)

No, I want to set it manually, and I can't. Some automatic is moving it even if I set the LegAttk knob to 0.
I've also tried other settings which could affect it, unfortunately found nothing..

To be precise with our terminology, you can either save an "instrument" or a "multi", which is a collection of multiple instruments. What we're working with in the KH libraries are instruments. If you had a monster computer you could load the Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass instruments all at the same time and be able to access the entire string section on multiple channels from one instance of Kontakt. You would need a serious machine to pull this off though.

To save an instrument click on the "Files" button on the top center toolbar. (It looks like a floppy disk.) Select "Save as..." and you should see the name of the instrument you're editing. Click on that and you should go to a familiar Save window where you can rename the file and choose where to save it.

You'll always want to click "patch only" and "absolute sample paths", because you don't need to resave the huge number of samples, just the changes you've made to the instrument's settings. This means you could save dozens of variations of the various string instruments without taking up any significant disk space.

Although Kontakt's file structure can cause frustration when installing libraries it is amazing how much flexibility it gives you with saving your own versions of things once everything is in place.

A developer/vendor who openly states that one of his products is not that big of a must-have anyway? Now I've seen it all :) Seriously though, exceptional customer support throughout, can't wait to finally try the libs (purchased and downloaded but rehearsal/gigs every day since saturday in addition to a 40-hour dayjob week are keeping me out of my studio). I haven't been very active production-wise for the past months, and I hadn't used Kontakt much before, so I just realized, I only have Komplete 5 with Kontakt 3. I was under the impression I had Kontakt 4, but that gives me an excuse to upgrade to Komplete 8 :D

About saving Instruments.

When I install a new Library I always make an archive copy of the Instruments (into a .zip file). That way, if I accidentally any of the supplied instrument patches I can always get the original patch out of the .zip file.

For the KH products you can keep the downloaded .zip files on a back-up disk (or two!).

When I modify any of the supplied Instruments I generally save it with a slightly_different name (e.g. "_DS").

wow! you took that one completely out of context. he was only referring to the disco effect:

I didn't mean to do that, I was indeed referring to the disco effect as well. It was not meant as a derogatory comment in any way, just genuine pleased surprise with the reaction, seeing that Kirk was not trying in any way to convince me of buying PRS just to satisfy my hunger for completeness (read: disco strings :-)).

Yes, that one
Thank god I found this. I thought I hadn't gotten an email either (was only forwarded to a link from the PayPal confirmation). Turns out it was in my spam folder for my PayPal and so it never forwarded to my main email account. Another couple of weeks and it'd have been lost!

(Aaaaanddd... ten pages caught up with... now to catch up on whatever I've missed in the main GB thread... )
