Logic / Cubase / PT are all much more mature and polished DAWs. Even Studio One v2, which is relatively new, is much more polished and mature. Reaper, while having a lot of "features", lacks some big highly common features in my experience and I think as MANY people have brought up, has some severe user interface issues (you can argue this all you want, but if you don't think so, you need to go read a bit more about UI best practices - seriously).

Not interested in arguing, but I would like specifics.

I already know I'm going to regret this but here goes anyway.

When you see all of these really nice Reaper screen shots, using some of the really great themes for sure, next time pay attention to what you actually don't see. You don't see some of the really huge panels docked... because they don't look all that good and some of them don't fit all that well.

Even the official graphics on the home page don't show those things.

So ask yourself... in all of these really nice screen shots, and some of them look really fantastic, why is that potentially great stuff (track list, view manager, file browser, properties, etc) always left out of them? Wouldn't that be stuff to kinda show off? Not really, because they're not very well done quite yet.

Not a knock. Not stopping anyone from music making. Just a reality. They aren't quite there yet with the overall UI. Do some screenies that emulate Logic or similar, with that much information on display in the dockers, then see how it looks, feels, behaves in some cases.

P.S. In complete fairness to Reaper, it just really got the kind of "universal" docking system in V4 so there is plenty of opportunity for improvement there going forward... Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

If you are speaking of what I think you are, it's all about alt/D here

I should make a key command for it but all that stuff is docked on my bottom and it's not really a big to me that I have to scroll for some of it. Hell, sonar x1/8.5 doesn't even have the option to scroll

Of course then again my projects are no where near as large as many others

btw, this is something I discovered about the reap AFTER that whole x1/docking thing. And though it's far from perfect it has been better than lets say cubase which was window HELL!

Well, I like Reaper's GUI..in that it is customizable.

Sonar X1? Can't change the colours. Oh, there are colour choices..but not one of them comes into play.

Can't resize the controlbar..you take modules out, you would expect to see the thing shrink in size ...no..not happening here.

There is also a few issues that show up on my PC...sometimes I load the program..PC comes up greyed out..have to drag the thing out then back to get the ruddy thing to not be greyed out.

Then again..if one wants to argue real fugly GUI's one could bring up SAWStudio....

I know of what you speak. I guess for me, I'm so enamored with the fact it works and that I was so sick of stuff that doesn't I tend to fanboi it up.

I do agree with that.

They (Steiny) actually kinda do the same thing if you pay attention. You see these really cool official Cubase 6 videos with arrange fully maximized... they sort of avoid showing the not so great parent / child window behavior whenever possible... it seems to me anyway.

But those Cubase 6 screenies, with arrange maximized, look pretty sweet. Of course you can rarely ever actually keep it that way for long periods.

Anyway, back on topic. Would I have initially bought it for $400 or whatever? Probably not, mostly because I'm really not in the habit of spending that much money duplicating software, and I already had a couple of DAWs. At $60 it's a no-brainer though.
