Isn't the main Reaper guy a multimillionaire? It's not like he can't afford to hire some extra people.
Would you still buy Reaper if it will cost you as much as the other DAWs ?

I love the text search boxes in Reaper. It has so many great features, so when I criticize it it's from a position of love, not hate. I want it to be better. Compared to Sonar, which I've absolutely given up on.

The last straw for me with Sonar was their mean decision to make the ability to use drag and drop to replace plugins in a track only available in the new premium version. I only wish I could sell it.Arglebargle wrote:I love the text search boxes in Reaper. It has so many great features, so when I criticize it it's from a position of love, not hate. Maybe the original question should be reversed because it force you to think the other way around.
Would you still buy Reaper if ALL the other DAWs would cost $60?
If yes then the case should be closed. Reaper is really that good.

I would definitely choose Reaper if price was no object. It's so easy (Rapid Environment a p e r )

Simply check the "show last touched FX parameters only" box, and that collapses that display into a neat 7 main parameter only display of the main automated parameters, plus if you have automated any, all others will no longer be on display.
The display then becomes very small and tidy.

Yeah probably. The reason I switched from Sonar was not a price issue, it was a laundry list of other shit.liquidsound wrote:Maybe the original question should be reversed because it force you to think the other way around.

I understand your workaround but the needs for shortcuts, hidden key combinations and finding buried features to create a workable environment are only further making the point that the UI is not intuitive. Thanks for the tip but that small text and checkbox are easy to miss.Astromann wrote:Repeat

It's quite obvious (to me, anyway) that Reaper is not immediately usable or fluid beyond basic recording tasks. If you just need to set up an input, press record and go then it's actually VERY easy. Dig a little deeper and you'll need to run to the forum or peruse the manual

Reaper is the Linux of the DAW's.

You'll find the same sort of list in most hosts with plugins with lots of params - Reaper presents it all on one page at least where possible - just look at how Sonar X1 presents the same information - I know which I would prefer:Astromann wrote:Repeatchacka wrote:It absolutely is!!! The point is in the case of plugins with so many params I don't think any host has really so far come up with a brilliant way to see them all at once, Studio One and Energy XT 2 put them all in one long scrollable list (which in the case of plugins with lots of params like Kore can get endless), Live puts them all on one screen like Reaper does (maybe a bit prettier but still rather mindblowing when there are many params), and I've seen lists very similar to Reaper's in Protools. What separates the good hosts from the less good is that they provide us ways to avoid going into the whole list - not so much workarounds as workflow enhancements. So, thankfully, you normally don't need to go into this sort of list as there are several other ways of assigning automation (in all these hosts) such as using a write mode or last touched param etc.

I don't know the definitive answer to that - if it isn't the author/publisher should get Scribd to take it down. Scribd does for text what Youtube does for video.blueman wrote:I bought this when it first came out. It's a great book, is it free now?
The thing that's really important about this book is the full and detailed revelation of how to use channel splitting. If you don't know what that is, and how powerful a technique it is, you don't realise other DAWs can't do it.
