I have a question. How do you get FL's Piano Roll to show the Mod Wheel Controls?

In that video, the guy is controlling the mod wheel from the piano roll, but I don't have that CC.

All I have are:

Note pan, velocity, release, unsupported params 1 & 2, and fine pitch,
Channel Volume, Panning, and Pitch.

I'm sort of a noob to this stuff, so go easy on me :hihi:

it's not immediately apparent ...

you'll need to be in pattern mode , iirc ...
you need to use the drop down menu , in the FLS wrapper , to 'browse parameters' ...
scrolling through that list will reveal CC1 , and much else besides ...
the video presenter most likely set this up before-hand ...

use 'edit events' to initiate some , well , events ...
thereafter , a right click on the side of the bottom of the piano roll ,
should reveal your CC1 ( or , what have you ) ...

Many thanks for the tip! :)

you are welcome ...

it's only fair to point out that , as with most things FLS ,
there are several ways to accomplish this task ...

you may want to familiarize yourself with the MIDI Out channel insert ,
as well as the Dashboard ...

thanks! this was bothering me for a while..

FL Studio and Mod Wheel is one of the most retarded things in any DAW. Why on earth doesn't FL studio accept modwheel automatically for all plugins? It's like THE most used controller after the pitch wheel. New users are always confused by this.

I've been nagging about this since 5 years already but in typical IL style they dismiss it as no big deal (like they did with PDC on rendering and then full automatic PDC after that.. and like they are doing with freeze).

Cheers!

I already use the MIDI out for several things. Mostly stuff like Kontakt or Miroslav where you can use multis. In my more recent projects, I often have 40+ MIDI Outs loading from a few kontakt multis and what-not.

Though I don't use it for anything fancier than that, I assume you are telling me that there are some hidden wonders of the MIDI Outs that aren't blatantly obvious, especially to newbies.

I have to agree there. A LOT of the VST's I use say stuff about modwheel control, and until now, I have never figured out how to use it. FLS should definitely natively support the modwheel controls. I also think that there should be per-note controls for modwheels, so that you can set a certain note to the modwheel position. As it is now, it's still kinda odd to have to manually automate it (as I don't have a MIDI keyboard), and sometimes makes my patterns look messy (-er than they already are. I never quantize anything - makes for a more human-like taste to it).

not hidden , per se , but perhaps not obvious ...
you can configure the knobs ( eight pages of them ! ) to send control messages , such as modwheel CC1 ,
and automate them using 'edit events' , or 'automation clips' ...

i use this a lot , w/ kontakt , and reaktor ...

All you have to do is jiggle the knob you want automated, hit Tools menu. Select :Last tweaked, create automation clip, and draw it on the piano roll.

try that w/ the modwheel , on kontakt , and tell me how that works out for you ...
the 'last tweaked' method is fine , as long as the parameter is reported to the host ...
sometimes , you need to assign parameters ...

I don't even know where to find a modwheel on Kontakt.

Yes of course, I KNOW THAT, but in most other hosts you simply insert the plugin and start playing. Mod wheel works without ANY configuration, immediately. I know you can even setup things permanently in FL Studio but the point is that NEW users are always confused by this (and many old ones as well). It's one of those stupid design decisions from the FL team.

Cheers!
