Apparently the changes are:
Improved compatibility with full-screen view and Mission Control in OS X Lion
The sample preview option available when importing samples into Ultrabeat now functions correctly
The destination for recorded files is now properly reset to the new Project folder after using "Save As..." command
Just downloading now.

I'd prefer Ultrabeat, with a revamped UI of course.

Is this the beginning of the end of Logic as a professional DAW?
Can't help but wonder if the environment will be taken out and we'll more or less just have Garage Band plus a couple of plugins,,,,

Why worrying? I don't think Apple will make the mistake twice. They had enough with Final Cut X fiasco.

Yep, £139.99 in UK app store - looks like they have separated it from Logic Studio. Only 413mb download, so I am guessing that the many GBs of additional content is not included.george wrote:It's also available at the Mac App Store for $199.
Mainstage 2 also available separately on app store for £20.99.

OK - the very last line of Logic Pro says '19GB of optional content available via in-app download.'
Couldn't see anywhere that it says it is free or not.
EDIT: There are some news posts that came up in google that stated that the content is automatically authorised when you authorise either Logic Pro or Mainstage 2. So it appears that the content is free with either app.
They are also stating that the boxed version is discontinued, it was showing on the US Apple store for $499 up to 2 minutes ago, but now redirects to Logic Pro app download. The UK site still has the boxed version showing at £417.

I was hoping it would be more dramatic than this.
I use Reaper but all of the Logic X doomsday scenarios have been wonderful entertainment.
Please, at least, keep this thread hostile.

Another kick in the retailers balls from Apple. I wander is there's still someone wanting to deal with them. Of course, from the user point of view this is great - an app suite that used to cost around 1000 around fiver years ago now costs 200. They are competing with Reaper, allright. What do people questioning Reaper business model have to say about this one?

I'm not questioning Reaper's business model (makes sense to me) but Logic Express was $299 long before Reaper ever existed. To assume it's $199 now because of Reaper isn't all that logical... no pun intended.fmr wrote: What do people questioning Reaper business model have to say about this one?
Reaper 1.0 was released in 2006.AES, SAN FRANCISCO—October 28, 2004
Logic Express 7 is available now through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com), Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $299 (US).

It's Logic PRO that is $199 now, not Express. (And Logic Express used to be a pretty lame thing anyway.)LawrenceF wrote:I'm not questioning Reaper's business model (makes sense to me) but Logic Express was $299 long before Reaper ever existed. Apple like a lot of retailers realise that online sales especially when it comes to software is the way forward so nothing new there. As for competing with Reaper , LIVE Logic and Cubase are industry standards for production and the number of users versus Reaper users would be way larger.fmr wrote:Another kick in the retailers balls from Apple. I am not sure I understand the discussion about Logic's pricing. While the Apple Store shows it at £417, I have bought logic Studio three times (one for a friend, one for a work colleague) and the price has been £150 each time (through 3 different dealers).
I have even seen it as low as £130 (just after I bought one of them for £150). The boxes are sent directly from the Apple Store after purchase. So the app store pricing is now just reflecting what the Apple dealers were selling the product for anyway.
