The Logic Express page now redirects to Logic Pro. AppleInsider, MacRumours, MacWorld, ArsTechnica and others are all reporting Logic Express as discontinued. So it sure looks that way.aMUSEd wrote:So is Express no more?

I remember paying about 500 EUR for Logic Studio not a long time ago, so this new pricing is a no brainer, especially compared to Ableton, Cubase and other competing hosts.

No box version anymore, that's another lot of poor old souls out of work at Xmas.

That is true if you already have a mac. However, whatever money you save on the software they sure as hell will be making back on the hardware costs.george wrote:I remember paying about 500 EUR for Logic Studio not a long time ago, so this new pricing is a no brainer, especially compared to Ableton, Cubase and other competing hosts.

So, as Logic Express seems discontinued, does that mean it won't receive any update?
It makes sense to discontinue it since they sell the full version for a very cheap price (lower that what I spent last January for the express version), but I'm not that happy if I'm left with an unsupported version...

Logic Express is Logic Pro without...Xenakios wrote: It's Logic PRO that is $199 now, not Express. (And Logic Express used to be a pretty lame thing anyway.)
And a few plugs and less content. Same exact application otherwise.* Surround sound mixing (up to 7.1).
* Distributed Audio Processing (allows sharing of processing power between networked computers)
* Support for TDM compatible Avid hardware (Mac OS X v10.5.x only).

I remember when I bought Logic 7 about 5 or 6 years ago it was €1000 and that was just for Logic (no Mainstage, no 19gigs of samples, etc.). €150 is quite a deal that's going to get them a lot of customers.
I wonder how they are going to handle major updates, will there be an upgrade package or will you have to buy the whole thing again. Although everything I've encountered on the iphone/ipad app store have been free updates even for major stuff, don't know if Apple will be that generous with Logic though.
Does this also mean that you can't resell now either? Not that I have any intention of doing so.

I think some (not necessarily you) fell victim to marketing. The comparison list from 2005 below is pretty narrow feature wise.
Unless people actually needed everything in Pro back then (as opposed to just "wanting" it, and you know how we daw whores want everything
), not sure why they'd buy it. Unless I own PTHD or something that extra $700 would have had to been *highly* justifiable.
Was Beat Mapping worth another $700? Dunno...

wow- lucky people who don't have Logic. My sister-in-law just purchased the retail box for her husband yesterday from her employee store account- luckily, she was able to call and Apple refunded the difference- now that is classy.
So if anyone JUST purchased the box version from Apple- give them a call right away- you might get lucky.
19GB- so does that mean they have removed some content I wonder???

@JavaJ They probably compressed the files, but getting someone who purchased Logic download version to compare would be helpful.
