nah...this gives no mention of the difference in terms of packaged instruments and effects....LawrenceF wrote:I think some (not necessarily you) fell victim to marketing. The comparison list from 2005 below is pretty narrow feature wise.
Unless people actually needed everything in Pro back then (as opposed to just "wanting" it, and you know how we daw whores want everything), not sure why they'd buy it. Unless I own PTHD or something that extra $700 would have had to been *highly* justifiable.
Was Beat Mapping worth another $700? Dunno...
go and research a little more thoroughly, perhaps

they only want to make "room" for other product boxesSo the app store pricing is now just reflecting what the Apple dealers were selling the product for anyway.

Sure can - the option has been added to the 9.1.6 update - not just the app store version.ebow wrote:pretty sure you can pick and choose alsosimonden wrote:It is an optional in-app download, so those people are also catered for.hatethatiloveyou wrote:sucks for those ppl that want logic but dont want to download 20 gigs of completely dated apple loops leftover from emagic sample packs...........

I was able to update Logic, but not Main Stage. AFAIK, it's in version 2.2 now, and I am running version 2.1.x and the System Update says I have everything updated. And I'm running Lion. Does someone knows if this is supposed to be paid already, even for current Logic Studio owners?

MainStage 2.2 is a so-called "feature update" which means that it's not free. Since Logic Studio does no longer exist (and we now have two separate apps), you are supposed to purchase MainStage 2.2 from the App Store in case you want those features.
It's also worth mentioning that Waveburner and SoundTrack Pro are end-of-life, so there are no updates to be expected anymore.

Nothing else to research. I had the entire PDF which of course also showed all of the instrument and plug difference but I only posted the practical feature differences, not FX and instrument differences.ebow wrote: nah...this gives no mention of the difference in terms of packaged instruments and effects....

This is KVR after all, where oftentimes that stuff doesn't matter to many (see Reaper with really no instruments or content at all) so I didn't post the entire list, only the first part related directly to features... what features you got for $299 back then.
But sure, Pro added more instruments, plugs and content.

it doesn't really matter whether it' important to kvr at all...the point you seemed to be trying to make was that there was no difference worth paying for, between logic and express, while intentionally leaving out some of the biggest reasons why there is a price differenceLawrenceF wrote:Nothing else to research. you seemed to infer that us idiots who bought 'pro' were fooled by marketing, that we wanted to be 'pro' so much that we'd pay $700 just for surround sound functionality
but yeah, 'pro' "added more instruments, plugs and content", so there is that

Not only were the plugs worth the price, they still are. EXS-24 may not have the advanced features of Kontact, but between what comes with it (with the Jampack content) and the SF2 sounds that are available on the web, there certainly is plenty of content available. EXS-24's filters and envelopes are easy to use, and it makes a lovely synthesizer. Speaking of synthesizers, EXS-24 has been out about a decade now, and it is still one of the most versatile softsynths on the market.b-pole wrote:but this "was" the important difference, the plugs were worth the price.but yeah, 'pro' "added more instruments, plugs and content", so there is that
I started with Logic Express in about 2007, and at that time it had ES2 and EXS-24, but with a somewhat reduced sound library. To get the Jampacks you had to go to Pro. You had to go to Pro to get the modeled EP and Clav. At that time, Express was $199 and Pro Studio was $499. I upgraded to Logic Pro a couple years ago, and I have barely scratched the surface. Now, the Pro content is basically available for the same price as the old Express package.
My notebook computer is a Windows 7 Dell, and I miss Logic when I'm using it. (Though I like all the fun freeware VSTs for Windows.) I'm planning on switching from Tracktion 3 to Mixcraft 6 when it is available shortly. (I don't grok Reaper.)

I meant to say ES-2 is one of the most versatile synthesizers.
