This was recommended to me, but it's somewhat expensive and I don't know if it's perfect...the really good ones cost $500 don't they? (assumption-prove me wrong please)

"Ultra portable" yeah I'd need something 100% stationary.
Dear synchronizer,

It is one thing to ask question upon question about minutiae -- I can understand it, as some of it actually ends up being important.

But to ask the same thing after it has been answered is... kind of uncool. Especially when you were rude to the people who answered you. That is kind of extremely uncool.

Back when you first started appearing on the GB thread, you asked for external HD suggestions. Several people answered, including me. I suggested one which I own -- spins at 7200 rpm, works well, costs around $100. Supports USB 2 and USB 3. Your only ackowledgement was to dismiss the suggestion because your machine doesn't support USB 3. Not only was that an erroneous answer, but the absence of any thanks casts you in an unsymptathetic light.

Go back and review your own posts and the responses thereto before asking someone else to devote more time to helping you with things which you could do yourself. For that matter, why not try something really radical -- Google something like "reviews USB hard drive 7200" and see where that gets you? Perhaps you could even share your findings -- giving rather than taking for a change.

Ther is, by the way, an important moral in the following tale...

Not this again---I forgot about that specific drive. Thank you for going out of your way to suggest a drive but it is true that USB 3 is not compatible with macs. I wish it were.

I'll be quiet now. No matter what there always seems to be something wrong with what I post.

Those only work with LaCie devices- a trade off for USB 3.0 support. Now anyway, let's allow someone else to ask the questions. I'm tired of being called a spoiled person.

Again, sir -- it can work as either a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 drive, as I pointed out last month and reiterated a few minutes ago.

Now, try actually reading the product specs. Here, I'll help you.

Go here

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-GoFlex-Pe ... 41&sr=8-14

Scroll just a tiny bit down the page. You will see this:

"Technical Details

USB 3.0 Plug and Play
High performance 7200 RPM drive
Sleek, ultra-thin anodized design
Use the same drive interchangeably on both Mac and PC computers"

What does that last point say?

If you feel picked on, compare your conduct to that others who ask questions without irritating others. The distinctions are that you have to be reminded to help yourself; you make baseless claims; and you don't read the stuff which is spoon fed to you or otherwise is right under your nose. You are like a black hole of feigned helplessness and endless need.

... but it shouldn't really crash iif it's got nothing to do, should it? May be worth reporting to NI.

Yes I know:

This will not only improve access performance
when streaming the Instrument from disk, but will also reduce its memory footprint, as
KONTAKT will decompress the Samples on-the-fly from memory with very little CPU overhead.
The downside of using compressed Samples, however, is that you cannot use external
wave editors to access them directly anymore.

It's up for interpretation though-- what if a 5400 rpm drive will handle the compressed files worse than the uncompressed ones? Thanks for the manual pages but it's as if you think I'm lazy whenever I ask for a specific confirmation.
Not at all, but I have absolutely no way of knowing what you do or do not know. And the manual gives definitive info, I believe.

yeah there was a crash report but i forgot where it went. i'll send if i can find it. any suggestions?

although they'll probably just think i'm an idiot for trying to compress something already compressed. and i'd laugh right along with them :smack:

I think Kontakt puts its crash logs in My Documents\Native Instruments somewhere (on Windows).

You could always try running it again ;)

You can get 1TB 7200 RPM drives for under 100.00 nowadays.

Which one do you personally use? I'm curious. Oh- and I'm compressing Diamond now---wish me luck. I'll post the size of my folder once it's done if anyone's curious about its size post-compression.

One of the drives I use is a 1TB iomega external usb, and I have not had any trouble streaming from it for the year I've had it. You can usually pick those up for under 100.00. There are others out there as well. Just make sure they're 7200 RPM and you'll be ok. FYI, we would have compressed Diamond and CS2, but there are still a lot of folks out there who are using older versions of Kontakt which cannot read the new .ncw files.

Might I suggest providing the two versions on separate download pages? (If you have the bandwidth)

Okay I'm, having some genuine trouble: the process stopped on "Wolfy" files, and it can't find the files anywhere via search and so on. What do I do? I can't find them myself either, even in the original filesystem.

Please help- out of all things I've asked this is of grave importance.

It's looking for 43 files, named something like this:

wolfy_nv.143_090.wav assumed at /Volumes/RUBYEXS/rec_solo_stings_ii/Violin/_wolfy_nv_norm_eq/(any number, any note)

I can't find them. Are they old files that were added into others at a later date? Perhaps they don't exist any more but they are being referred to.

Really looking forward to responses as soon as possible.

Thanks so much.

As with any possible issue, tech support requires that the issue can be duplicated. Therefore, in order to do this, I need the exact name of the file that is presenting the issue, and if possible a screenshot of Kontakt's window where it is asking for missing samples.
