Glad you discover Usine, hope you'll like it.
btw, you can create patches in Usine and save them as VST, and as the Usine engine is multi touch, your VST will be be multi touch too. Futur is now as they say 8)

Thanks for all your replies, I hope I've asked a question which opens up a dialogue with music hardware manufacturers who could perhaps offer an affordable dedicated pad in a range of sizes that are exclusive to our needs.

You kind of see them being offered up by 'M-Audio' 'Akai' 'Novation' etc perhaps they have knobs on, stands and can be chained together also. "Ooooo"!

I know 'Jazz Mutant' Lemur etc were the first to leave the scene, but with hardware costs reaching into the thousands of pounds, it's not surprizing they gave up the product and dissolved the company.

However a few years have passed and the touch screen hardware has become much cheaper, I can't see the need to complicate issues with midi drivers and compatibility issues involved with 'Tablet PC's/MAC's' driving me insane being part of my music making day.

But X/Y and extensions of this like 'Koncrete Performer' are a deffinate idea, infact to display your performance on a screen behind on stage with interestic interactions akin to 'Child of Eden' on the XBOX would to me be a fitting direction rather than just the display and basic control of my DAW or even instruments. I like knobs on my drum machines and keyboards, it makes them feel like instruments in there own rite, but with Touch being such a visual thing I imagine more kinesthetic and Synergistic experience with audience, media and music.

Perhaps I'm missing the mark and it's just a case of dedicating your exsisting Tablet PC's to the job, with striping back OS, and App's that are truely plug in and play.

But something keeps telling me, a true screen extension of my DAW and VST with touch screen ability, should not really be that difficult?

Touch screen is a poor imitation. Why not get the real thing :
