Hello all!

My first post here at KVR! And what a good way to start posting! This is my entry for the KHS Demo contest, an original work made just for this contest:

http://soundcloud.com/pedroseq/riding-towards-freedom
(http://snd.sc/v16u5q)

It's in a western/soundtrack style and it uses only strings (from Ruby) and brass (from CBII), in order to show the potential of these wonderful samples. I must say it was a pleasure to orquestrate this track using CBII and Ruby. The samples are so lively, that they inspired me to compose it! It took me 2 weeks to finish it. I didn't do any EQing/tweaking with the samples. I just used them out-of-the-box, with the included reverbs. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it!

I also enjoyed listening to all other entries. There's some serious competition around here! Good luck to all!! :)

Best regards,

Pedro

Very nice work, Pedro! I'll activate your links so others can listen and comment.

And allow me to be the first to say welcome to the conversation at KVR!

Hello Peter,

That was a fast answer! Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad to join KVR!

As for my entry, the transcoding of soundcloud isn't the best, so I ended up uploading also the .wav file to see if it produces less artifacts then the .mp3 one. I don't notice much difference, but, nonetheless, allow me to post a new link (same piece, with just less artifacts, I hope... :roll:) :

I was in doubt if buy CBII or ruby before the groupbuy ends and amadeus' entry made me think about CBII; now, after your entry it's clear that I'm more confused than before :D
good luck to everyone!

PS my kontakt5 has eventually arrived

Hi EdC,

Given the current price tag for CBII, you definitely can't go wrong with it! It's a great sample library, that I can say! Just as an example, while recording the tuba track, I could almost feel the tuba player's breath in my ears (I was using headphones :lol:) The same for the trombones. Very intense instruments, that's for sure!

About the reverbs, in the beginning I was somewhat afraid about joining instruments from Ruby (now part of Diamond) to CBII, because I have the original Ruby set, with patches prior to TVEC. But Kirk really knows what he's doing! Even though Ruby patches use a standard reverb different from CBII one, I can feel that all instruments are in the same room. They blend very well!

Unfortunately, the soundcloud transcoding function didn't do justice to the "clean" recording I uploaded. My guess is that probably it didn't like the reverb :roll:. So, please, don't let that confuse you about the samples quality, which is pretty darn good! :D

Best regards,

Pedro

Post

Perfect, thank you for the clarification Pedro!
But the confusion it's due to the fact that both sound great!
And I meant diamond, not ruby, sorry..

Post

@EdC

If I understand your point, you're deciding wether to get CBII or Diamond. Let me put it this way: a) if you're on a really tight budget and need a full orchestra, rather than just a brass section, go for Diamond; b) if you already have a full orchestra and you're on a budget to get a good brass section, then go for CBII, no doubts. I'm considering that Diamond's brass section is as good as Ruby's one (same samples). So, although Ruby's brass section is great (I used it to rough sketch my track), it isn't as punchy as CBII (which I used for the final recordings). I hope this helps you!

Best regards,

Pedro

Oh... I forgot that the deadline was this soon. Ah well- I was planning on making something great but I haven't had the time.

Good luck all---where do I vote? There's no link on the front page.

Post

I think you can share your thoughts on entries in your posts here, there is not a real vote link.

@Pedro

You understand very well :)
I already have CSII and other orchestral libraries even if not at same level so maybe CBII is the way to go for now (I asked this in another thread so if other doubts will arise I'll post there)

Thank you

if i remember correctly, Kirk and Peter (eDrummist) will decide who's the winner!
