I wonder if Tremor will incorporate some wavetable sequencing abilities?

Those do sound very good. FXspansion does know how to do that overdriven filter thing really well. Right now I achieve this sort of sound by using Amplitube SVX with a bypassed cabinet section. To to put this effect on a single drum can be clumsy and can rack up CPU if I want different setting for different drums and using it as a send effect just wont do.

I'd like to hear some more audio demos where the filter isn't so driven and can open up a bit. If it's anything like the gain setup in DCAM I bet you'll be able to get some really juicy phat sounding drums. Ah, forget that, just get me a software demo!

I'm happy to say I've contributed sound design to Tremor, and it's totally awesome. One of the best drum synths I've ever used.

I am not impressed by those audio demos. Not at all.

The demos aren't too bad IMO but I'd like to hear something beefier & with more umph to it.

The mod matrix. Being able to route the LFO/velocity/fast&slow envelope, and other operators to nearly everything in the synth makes for either very "real" drum sounds, or very insane drum design.

It's not just a 16 step sequencer with some sounds, it's a really programmable and tweakable drum synth.

At least, IMHO. It was really fun to sound design with.

+1

Seems unlikely this is representative of the final product though..

Get the demo and play with it when it comes out - it'll be worth it.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but the latest ComputerMusic gives a brief 'exclusive' report on the impending release of Fxpansion's latest.

It's in the opening pages of the mag if you're looking for it.

If it's anything like DCAM, and I imagine it probably is, it suffers from the "crank the gain" mentality of FXspansion. When I first listened to the demos of DCAM I thought it sounded kind of harsh and compressed, but someone here pointed out that what's considered normal gain going into the filters is actually really hot. He was right. When you back off the gain, sometimes quite a bit, you'll notice that the filters come to life and you can get some pretty nice "beef" out of them. I suspect it'll be the same with Tremor.

IMO, I think a lot of this misconception would change if they just had their UI more accurately reflect the gain state of the synth. But then again, no one would accuse FXpansion of knowing anything about user interface design. :hihi:

the filters operate just fine, gainstage or not. And the "crank the gain" mentality is one found in most synthesizers, BTW - it comes down to sound design. Turn the gain down or not, it sounds good.

You do realise that you harp on and on this point pretty much every time there is a thread about FXpansion, right?? It's getting tiresome.

And you'll find with Synth Squad, (and pretty much all synths out there in fact) that the factory content is often produced by 3rd parties, so the "crank the gain" mentality you're talking about... well.. it just doesn't exist.
