Free Brush Kit

Looking for some brush .wav samples or, if the kit comes preloaded in a sample player, that would be fine too. In fact that makes it easier because if they were individual .wav files then I would have to map the sounds to my drum sequencer. But either works.
I know there are sites that give you "taster packs" where it gives you like 1/8 of the total pack in samples to give you a little taste. Problem is here, those free sample packs usually don't include the velocity layers. I just need 3 velocity layers.
Any luck out there?

I know you specified "free", but seriously, check out Wavesfactory's new brush drum kit: http://samples.wavesfactory.com/?p=1109
It's only like $13 USD, and sounds fantastic! It has a really versatile tone, too--it works well in jazz, but packs enough punch to sound great in mellow rock tunes.

Well, good news, I am about 95% guarenteed this job that pays well. Gone are the days of only using freeware! $13 is worth checking out and...well..purchasing! Thanks friend.Gregjazz wrote:I know you specified "free", but seriously, check out Wavesfactory's new brush drum kit: http://samples.wavesfactory.com/?p=1109

It requires Kontakt, yes, but it doesn't mean you cant use the wav-files in a different sampler. You just have to do the mapping yourself, and you'll miss out on the scripting that's available in Kontakt.ntom wrote: EDIT

(Btw. thanks to Greg for pointing out this piece of kit. It went under my radar.)
Also, Soniccouture has a free brush kit available. It could probably be a good start for you.

Have a look here:

Premapped for Battery/Kontakt, too, but you can use the raw samples in any sampler.
Some of the other kits are quite nice, too.

Thanks guys! You know it really sucks there are all these great free instruments that require contact. It would be nice to use the scripting and and have them already mapped, but oh well, who said the free way was easiest?

Seriously, in case you have to deal with sampled stuff more often than just occasionally, there's just about no way around getting Kontakt. It's the new "de facto" standard, almost as much as AKAI samplers have been the de facto standard back in the days. And it's not without good reasons, either. NI constantly updates Kontakt, there's a nice (partially even excellent) library coming with it and it'll load a plethora of other sampler formats.ntom wrote:Thanks guys! In case you don't need sampling all too often, there's cheaper (probably even free) solutions, but - like it or don't - for any sampling addict there's almost nothing else but Kontakt these days. And well, it's not all *that* expensive, either, especially when you can get a good deal on, say, NIs Komplete packages.

I realize this, just lately money has been quite a very tight issue. As in I am living with my parents again because I got evicted from my apartments because I couldn't pay rent.Sascha Franck wrote:Seriously, in case you have to deal with sampled stuff more often than just occasionally, there's just about no way around getting Kontakt. I haven't quite had the money for Kontakt. It's not that I am avoiding it, I actually REALLY REALLY want it. Would be nice if I could get Komplete instead...

I know what you're saying. Been there myself already. So better don't worry and try to get along with what you've already got. Once you're in a better situation, try to get a nice Komplete deal.

Get LinuxSampler and a text editor like Notepad++; it's easy enough to code up SFZ mappings. Check out my website for examples.

Thanks but I actually have an sfz sampler. It's not glamorous, in fact it's really basic in function, but it does that job and that is all I need. I think for drums I will stick with my drum sequencer and for all other instruments I pray to the wind god that it comes in an sfz format. This all will be rectified once I can own Kontakt, which I also pray to the wind god that I will Kontakt because I own Komplete.pljones wrote:Get LinuxSampler and a text editor like Notepad++; it's easy enough to code up SFZ mappings. You can get Kontakt pretty cheap when they have their -50% crossgrade deals. They've had them annually for couple of years if I remember correctly. Cheapest crossgradeable Kontakt instruments are $50 normally and I've seen insane deals for them too. For example Sonic Reality Infinite Player has been in sale often for about 10 to 25 dollars.
