Hi,
I purchased ST 1.1. With the complete soundbundle for the iPad and had high hopes when reading the company's claim: a pro- quality sound workstation. I think this description including the price is completely overdone.
This is a wellstructured app with good usability, a sample player with a very basic 4 track midi recorder and far away from a workstation. I was hoping for high quality acoustic sounds. Try the acoustic bass (only one!): looping and aliasing can be heard quite often. Even the well acclaimed piano had disturbing aliasing sounds. Saxophone? You will find better sounds on a synth! Maybe some may like the synths stuff but this is something analog modulation synth apps will probably do better.
Let's compare: a bass sound pack costs you 8 euro. GarageBand costs you 4 euro and I found sounds that were way cleaner.

SampleTank for iPad offers several pianos from grand to upright. Our "Grand Piano 1," to reference just one, is a stereo, multi-strike instrument that has been voiced for tremendous expression between soft and hard velocities. SampleTank pianos. The pianos have all been meticulously and professionally recorded and edited at IK's studios to ensure no artifacts, noise or distortion.
We offer 56 bass instruments between the bass sound pack, the included instruments in the paid version and the bonus free instruments. We cover many different bass sounds from different fretted and fretless electric instruments to synth basses. We also include one meticulously recorded acoustic bass that you can adapt to any musical setting using the edit parameters for attack, release, cutoff along with various effects. We believe this is a proper balance for a sound set that covers all instruments. You may want to look into a specialized acoustic bass library if your music requires more tonal variations.
Sounds are of course subject to personal preference, and we are sorry you do not like the many sax instruments. The saxophones in the SampleTank app come straight from the desktop version of SampleTank and have been highly regarded among professional producers and keyboardists. We include variations of both alto and tenor sax instruments. All of us at IK are fans of GarageBand, but you will not find a single saxophone in the GarageBand app.
The synth sounds in SampleTank were sampled from classic Moog™, Oberheim™ and other classic and modern electronic instruments and are processed through a very powerful and flexible resonating filter for the utmost authenticity when playing. Many come straight from our SampleMoog desktop software as well, an instrument used by countless pros on stage and in the studio. One can debate the merits of virtual analog vs. sampling, but we don't think you will be able to match the range of synthesizer sounds offered in SampleTank in any single app.
And finally, there is no question that SampleTankoffers a greater variety and wider selection of instruments than any app currently available at any price.

Thank you for your detailed answer and for the links. I appreciate IK is listening to customers.
But let me make it clear even if I repeat myself:
I think, your app does not deserve the term "pro quality sound and groove workstation" a the marketing blurb suggests.
It's a sampleplayer with many patterns and four miditracks for simple recording, nicely laid out, but there are samples that are important to me that lack quality.
I listened again to some samples (using the ipdad keyboard to be fair):
The piano sounds nice indeed and I mistook string noises (maybe) with a high "ssing" as sample artefacts. I do not want to split hairs, but D4, D#4 and E4 are definitely not clean from artefacts (or whatever you call this).
The upright bass sounds nice as well, but with some keys the looping can be heard at the end of the sample. A1 for example has this very strange looping sound after half a second or so. C3 to B3 ends with this annoying looping sound, longer notes cannot be played with this, where as C4 and higher ends in a natural way.
Saxophones are truly a matter of taste, and my taste seems to be different. I've had quite a few sampletank packs including the gm set for pc some years ago, had a motif and some native/steinberg plugins and listened a bit to the competition.
We're talking single sounds. I will have to test the Sampletank soundset within an arrangement. Maybe the sounds altogether mix and blend well, that remains to be seen.
Final thought: I think it's fair to compare garageband and Sampletank side by side with GB (500 MB soundset) costing 4 Euro and Sampletank (700 MB soundset) + soundset for, well, 47 Euro. Sure enough, pricing is up to you, but for 47 Euro I was expecting something else and maybe the IK upgrade policiy is something that straightens it out - at least for me.
If I may ad a suggestion: Jazz, Latin(jazz), reggae, that classic stuff etc. is sadly missing, I can imageine, other potential customers will miss it as well.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who is very happy with Sampletank, and it's most recent update. I am still wishing for the ability to create/save your own patterns, something the four track seems to fall short on. Regardless, it's been a great addition to my live setup, and I haven't found anything that can really accomplish the same things. Garageband has some nice sounds, but feels more like a sketch-up tool than something to use in a live setting.
One thing I think most apps lack is a decent way to control them directly on the iPad. In my mind, virtual keyboards are fairly useless. What really opened up new worlds, and made the sounds more useful, was controlling Sampletank with Geo Synthesizer, using MidiBridge (would love to see Virtual MIDI in future updates).
When you can slide into notes and use a controller that is designed for the iPad, it really makes a difference.
In any case, I appreciate all your responses, ObiK, and that IK has been listening to all the feedback.

When you compare GarageBand and SampleTank for iPad sound libraries SampleTank for iPad is a lot more diverse with a wider selection. Not to mention the sounds we have taken directly from our classic Virtual Instruments but also from the upcoming SampleTank 3.

Yeah audio will work with the Akai Synth Station. Most don't support Core MIDI with the exception of their SynthStation 49. You can the MIDI Bridge app to help re route the midi to SampleTank for iPadyouCanCallMeAl wrote:what means: • Now compatible with every audio dock?!?!?!

Just a minor complaint, but can IK please knock it off with the damn pop-ups for other app specials? I paid money for ST. I shouldn't be seeing ads when I launch the app.
