Dammit, just had a large order come in with tons of stuff and it's all so damn tiny i can hardly see it!

Had some friends over for dinner two days ago and one of them said: "You'd better get one of them magnifiers" and i was like "Yeah right,There's nothing wrong with my eyesight. I'm 43 not 100."

But it's so small. I reckon i could fit like 20 capacitors on my pinkie fingernail. Why i would ever do that is beyond me but that would give you an idea on just how damn small these things are. I don't need a magnifier,i need a frickin microscope.

And the text on the ICs is so damn small i can't even see what's written on them! What are they? What do they do?

When i last did this 20-25 years ago things weren't so tiny, have i grown into a giant ? I must be at least 4 meters tall by now.

Did i mention everything is really small ?

You'd better get one of them magnifiers.

Doesn't it feel good to be a giant?

get the Bausch and Laumb (sp?) magnifying goggles, though also be warned...after about 42 or 43 I found myself needing reading glasses and I have always had great eyesight (still do, just not for reading)...the goggles are a great solution. Those magnifying lenses with a light on a swivel stand are great but to get one that's of reasonable quality is fairly expensive while the goggles are 35-40 dollars and have several different strength lenses.

SMT parts? I work with 0603 parts mostly and have to use a microscope most of the time. I have those nerdy looking magnifying goggles but even those don't cut it for the tiny PIC chips I have to work with. Keep in mind, I have better than 20/20 vision.

The biggest problem I have with the goggles is they get steamed up pretty quick if you sweat at all. I usually prefer to use a magnifying lamp, but as Hink says, a good one can be expensive.

mine dont get steamed up at all, they flip up out of the way, have a very comfortable leather headband and a nice way of tightening it to your head. I wish I knew what happened to my father's magnifying lamp, yeah it was old and from the 50s but as a kid I used it all the time (mostly building model cars)

These are the ones I use

I even use them reading fineprint on stuff :tu:

No it's not, that's the kicker. I don't recall stuff that small ever. The size of a stamp i could easily fit like 100 capacitors.

I have glasses since like 15 years. Maybe a new pair is in order. It's the same pair still. :hihi:

It's rather nice to have a pair of surgical telescopes (aka Galilean loupes):
