I was taught that the early Christians used 'X' as a symbol for Christ, so Xmas isn't really taking Christ out of Christmas. I do prefer the full name for the holiday; the abbreviation sounds like a Marvel comic book.

I hope you're kidding.

The X is actually Christian in origin, and as the poster above noted, comes from Greek (the language the New Testament was translated from). I'm guessing you're unaware of that. But if not, why do you feel the need to impose your will upon others just to suit your whims?

Really? He simply asked a question about an alternative spelling...how can that be construed with "imposing his will"?

It was the idea that the Photo_G pushed the gift-giver to adjust the rules to suit him based on Photo_G's dislike of the phrase Xmas. The whole "offended by Xmas" thing is out of ignorance; based on a lack of understanding of the term and it was inconsiderate of this guy looking for a freebie to expect the dev to modify his rules, basically telling him, "I want your free gift, but you're use of terms offends me. Change the language in order to make me happy and I'll take your freebie." Again, Photo_G's original quote, which I hope was just a joke:

Sorry. I just don't see a "stern directive" anywhere in there. In fact I went back to check if the post was edited, thinking you saw a prior version.

Maybe it comes down to the fact that text on the page is read with inflection and emotion added by the reader, that may not have been on the writer's mind. Tomato, tomahto.

No idea how you interpreted it that way, but he meant that the auto-reply function will also work for mails with "Christmas" in the subject OF THE E-MAIL.

The OP understood the request when replying. This has nothing to do with the TITLE of this thread and was a request, not an order.

Ah, I see I missed the first post and caught Photo_G's post as quoted by another poster and thought he was referencing the OP's post telling him to change it. But don't get lost on a secondary point. At the root of it, Photo_G's request basically tells the gift giver "I don't find your Xmas wording acceptable, so you need to modify your rules around my wants." That's the part I have an issue with. It's rude, based on ignorance and there's a lack of gratitude and respect for the OP. Just show a little gratitude.
