RMV: can't get loop group editing to work

It is my understanding that by assigning a slice to a group (in this case, group X), and selecting the group, that all edits (mode with the right mouse button) should apply to all slices in the group. In my case, however, the changes (for example, LFO changes, modulation assignments, filter and envelope changes) still only affect the single selected slice.

How can I apply a parameter change to all slices?

Also, what does the "edit all" button do? It does not seem to have any effect when I am changing parameters.

thanks

I hope someone has a good explanation, too. I have been trying to figure this out, as well. The manual is useless about this.

Not an official LinPlug voice but I'll have a go :)

Editing groups of slices is pretty counter-intuitive I think but does work...

Once you've loaded the loop into the editor you can assign a slice to a group in two ways: Click and drag on the tiny 'G' in the pad below the slices or, inline with the line that contains all the slices choose the group you want from "Display Mode" and then click a slice to add it to the group. If you set Display Mode back to "Select" after that then you'll not affect any other slices you subsequently click on.

Before editing the group you can set a "Master Slice" for the group by clicking on it. This where the colour coding on the slice waveforms can help. Once you've set your Master Slice then you can edit the whole group of slices by choosing it from "Display Mode", all of your slices in the group will turn white.

If you left-click any controls when editing a group then the action performed is relative to the Master Slice - you move any control 10% and they'll all change relative to the Master Slice. Slightly odd but there you go...

If you want to set the control to the same value for all slices then you need to right-click and move the control you want to change. This is the bit that is counter-intuitive in my opinion as we're so used to left-clicking and for the most part want to apply a setting globally.

"Edit All" serves as a way to do the same type of relative or global changes to the whole loop since all slices are selected.

Hope this is of some help.

Thank you, Anzoid. I just have to figure out if it is worth the effort getting to know this plugin better. I am having a hard time loving this one.

I can see your point ravasb. I've had RMV for a while now in order to work on a series of magazine articles so answering questions forces me to get to know it and helps see where people's "pain points" are. I'm not 100% certain I would have taken the time if I'd just been using it for myself. It works straight off if you only want to run loops or set up hits using MIDI. Anything else and it's one that takes some time to get to know.

One thing I do love though is the range of sounds available and the fact that you can mix and match loops and hits and stuff. There's an incredible flexibility there that needs digging into to get the best from RMV.

Anzoid,

Thank you again. I don't mind getting under the hood of an instrument, but this one does not seem to have a hood. It's mostly just "under" except as a drum module. I agree the sounds are pretty good, but I have other VSTs that I think sound better.

One of the reasons I bought this is that I have other Linplug instruments and like them a lot. Alpha and Cronox were pretty easy for me to get my head around. I thought RMV would be, too. It just feels like it was put together by a committee who each wanted to put in their favorite bits, but there was no project manager keeping it from getting out of control.
