Just tested my cheap chinese camera connection kit £5 on ipad2 ( called 5+1 in 1 usb,sdhc,ms,mmc,m2,tf / usb ) , plugged it in came up with not supported , clicked ok and tried sd card with dcim directory it read the sd card ok , tried usb stick lights flashed so seems ok , tried keyboard ok . Then i tried my Tascam us-800 powered by mains direct to cck did not work , tried us-800 powered by mains connected to usb hub which was powered externally then connected hub to cck and it worked (audio and midi) . Bad news is the cheap cck drops connection after a minute or so , Apple must have a built in feature which disables connection to unsupported devices after a time period or the cheap cck dont work. So if you intend to buy one of these chinese cck adaptors off ebay dont bother buy an official apple cck and save your money , unless you just want to copy dcim folder images or use keyboard , oh yeah my microsoft intellimouse which works on an android device dont work either. Bloody Apple.

Yeah, I'd stay away from those Chinese versions.

"Don't quantize me bro"!

You mean the non Apple "Chinese versions".

I was bummed to find out that my old M-Audio USB MIDI interface isn't recognized by the CCK...

I bought one off eBay for a fiver. Works a treat

I must say I'm finding the non Apple versions of iPad connectors and adapters are often better than Apples - the reason is Apple don't seem to think they need to make their connectors stay in but when you are trying to hook an iPad up to a big HDTV or projector you quickly find it pays to have a connector that has those nice little push in grippers to stop it falling out when its trailing several feet of HDMI cable.

Most of the 3rd party ones I've seen on Amazon seem to have a majority of negative reviews, which is why I went with an official one.

£5!!!! You've been ripped off as you can get them for £3:50 like I did!!! lol

As stated mine works too with the M-audio uno midi I have.

It does seem to moan now and then about not being supported but seems to carry on working...

Gotta admit it smells pretty poisonous tho. That flux-burn smell worries me with any electronics device and this has it in heaps.....

Is there any trick for the Uno?
Mine is an old blue one, and now that I think about it, seemed to need drivers for WinXP the last time I used it (years ago).

My new(ish) TC Helicon Voice Live Touch works as a sound card with the CCK tho'- yay!

I don't know how old mine is really but its a blue lump with USB and midi leads and 3 green led's for midi indication but it just worked without doing anything. You have to make sure on my CCK that its switched to USB rather than the card reader but the limited use I tried it seemed to work fine. I hooked it to Addictive synth & my old Roland EG101 keyboard and it was very snappy and responsive. Hooked it up to my Mopho to an had a quick twat about with lemur which seemed very cool playing it from the drum pad preset and it made some mad noise when I hooked it up to some of the other wierder presets (Esowave I think).

I'll let u know anymore when i test further over holiday period.

Ok people, it seems I jumped the gun a little with my Chinese CCK.

As I said previously this appeared to work fine but on closer and more detailed use, it appears that the device eventually stops working and requires plugging in/out again. Not particularly handy if your using it in a live context and it stops working!!!

Seems fine for about 5 mins which was why I said it worked as it does for a while.

I am right in assuming the real 'Apple' CCk does not fail like this???

Sorry for any cost I may have incurred on people suggesting they (the cheap Chinese CCK) work ok.

The main problem with the CCk is that it has no power input so you are running on batteries - I did consider it as a way to get midi into my iPad but for using it consistently something like the IK iRig Midi may be preferable as it has a power lead too

Latest update is i bought a 'real' Apple CCK, the two part one and eveything is sweet!! Hooked up with the M-audio uno and running Lemur, I had it running like a charm for about 2 hours, no warnings or drop outs etc. I was quite hoping for the chinese one to work but if I'm honest it wasn't exactly what i would call a 'quality' device. The Apple one being much smaller seems to be much more stable than the bigger, dual action chinese one, in a physical sense anyway. I don't want the SD Card crap anyway.

I hear you about the power lead tho - would have been nice to have the option to power it aswell. I think i will manage with the ipad on battery power as they do last a good while and i plan on using it as a non-essential controller for my daw mainly,, so if i have to put it on charge, my daw will not be effected too much. The chinese one had a mini usb port for charging but i never tried it, I think if another cable got plugged in it would have probably snapped off!!!

So, there you go - i fought Apple, but Apple won.....
