Tremor sounds great and is very capable. Nice work.
I do most of my work in Maschine standalone. One thing it lacks is a decent drumsynth. I get around it by having multiple instances of Tremor and just using one engine in each. a bit waste of ressources though so please consider the light version :shock:

I agree. pre/post filter gain/shaping, filter gain/drive, even a replicate of the gain shaping in the insert FX, which seems a bit redundant when its already in the fixed architecture.

Microtonic was never for me really, i think it sounds a bit thin and always the same ( IMHO ).

I don't think it matters whether your sound designers are internal or external. I've worked as a freelancer and as a full time employee and no matter what, you want to get asked back so you try to figure out what your employer wants and give it to them. Someone also has to make the choice of who to use so they're going to pick people who share their sonic tastes.

There's nothing really wrong with this other than the fact that if you don't share a sonic opinion with the company and not a sound designer, you're likely to pass on what might be a good tool for you. Tone2 is one of the worst offenders of this. Man do they love trance over there! I don't know how the dialog went but it may have worked better if you asked for x amount of presets that bent toward specific generas (I internally laugh when I write this because I never know what modern dance generas are supposed to sound like! ...though I think I could place a Minimal House track if I heard one. :oops: ) Then ask for an amount of "non definable" presets too. This way you could get a more balanced factory preset bank.

Another thing might be the fact that your preset authors were enamored with all the options for gain overdriving and distortion and went nuts. I brought up µTonic as an example of a drum synth I love, but it's pretty bent toward a "sound" as well, it just happens it's a sound I lean toward in my own music. No distorted drums... there's no distortion! You've got to post process it if you want it so that rules out doing any type of pre-filter gain. So maybe your designers were so happy to have these new tools (I'm pretty sure no other software drum synth has them) they overused them. Look at your own tutorial video. I think he adds distortion in at least 3 different ways on one sound in it. :-o

Speaking of post processing, I routinely use Amplitube 3 amps and fuzz boxes to post process drum sounds, so when you look at that in the context of CPU use, Tremor doesn't seem quite as bad. One thing I noticed though is that turning off effects didn't seem to make much of a dent in patches. Even turning off reverb didn't seem to make much of a difference. Maybe some later releases could address this and add quality modes. I'm glad devs are pushing modern CPU limits, but at the same time maybe their minspec machine should be a bit more modest or at least be considered.

I went through a whole bunch of presets last night, hoping to pick up some tricks, alas no lol

I also thought the majority of the sounds were distorted. I tried turning down the mater out, turne dof pre and post stages but it was still there.
It would be great to have some 'rounder' sounds and I cent believe there isnt a 909 kit in there somewhere!!

Main gripe - factory patterns are really crap!

I did the same thing last night. I went through, again, all of the presets. Then I took a few presets and went back and turned off all of the effects to get rid of the overdrive/distortion. Then I went through and had to completely readjust the mix of each, because w/out all of the effects, the balances were way off... Well, they started way off to begin with, too...

Just passing from preset to preset the sound is all over the place in low end and level, not just a nice variety sort of way, but haphazard and sloppy. For me, 99% of what I heard is unusable. And the lo-fi 8bit stuff? The glitch stuff? The hip hop stuff? The vintage stuff? On what planet?

Big disappointment. I'm in the market for a drum synth, and I've shooting out Microtonic and Tremor and even Nerve, though its sample-based. I too, find Microtonic to be a bit thin, but I can tell you one thing: it is musical. It's a musical little box, and it immediately inspires. It sits well in a mix. And the easiest thing in world is to slap some overdrive or fuzz on it if you want it.

So yeah, I'd love to hear some alternate sounds come out of this box. New or refined presets or whatever. Despite the sci-fi levels of CPU-usage, I'd buy it in heartbeat and freeze all day. I do love that sequencer.

Am I the only person who doesn't even switch through the presets and the first thing I do is look for the init patch button?

I don't see what the complaint is about the distorting drum sounds, as it's easy enough to create clean sounds with minimal fuss. It's the drive and distortion that sets it apart from other drum synths though, creating huge kicks was only previously possible by adding layers and outside processing. At least the types of kicks I prefer anyway.

But I also create minimal House, but creating sounds for that is so basic you can create it with anything.

Everyone mentioning CPU needs to bear in mind the construction of the oscillator. One voice isn't really one voice. It's more like one voice equals 8 oscillators... so once you start stacking up the voice count, it quickly gets big.

The cloud oscillator is great for cymbals and interesting sounds, but no-one said it would be CPU friendly! :P

No i use the input template as well to quickly build a pattern and edit from there. :)

I use step sequence mode a lot, shifting left and right, parameter locks etc. etc. and don't want to have several notes on the same step.

Am I the only one not getting the GUI? I find it small and very hard to navigate and program. I didn't even find a switch where I can tell it to stay on the synth page of the sound I'm working on rather than going to the most recently played sound.

And I have to agree on the presets - to my ears there is no clean punch in there, mostly kind of dull sounding distorted stuff.
Probably I'll have to try it some more the first couple of minutes playing with it left me disappointed...
