Diva Vs. Real Analog

What I want for next Christmas, along with a Unicorn:

Midi controller with swappable controller bed. The bed itself has a grid of slots, each fitted for a control module. Each module might house a knob, button/button-grid, slider, maybe a generic data entry/display to cover the bases with drop-downs and mod routings, etc. Some modules (like sliders) may take up more than one slot. Empty slots have covers.

You purchase these separately (knobs come in continuous, single polarity, dual polarity with center detent, etc.) Insert them where you wish. The entire bed can be swapped out of a main unit which houses the MIDI, power, USB smarts, etc., and optional keyboard with pitch/mod/aftertouch.

Purchase extra beds and knobs when you have the money. Comes with mapping software wich auto-loads when inserting a hot-swappable bed. Pre-configured beds available from the plug developers at reduced costs (since they purchase in volume).

Available in two sizes.

Yeah, there's lots of technical hurdles, and cost factors, but these are overcome - good engineering always looks like magic before it's done.

Make a Diva control bed, a Largo control bed... swap as needed. The dedicated controller aspect of hardware is the most insurmountable hurdle. They'll still be a few guys left to debate with scopes in hand, the rest of us will

I have several pieces of nice analog equipment (devilfish TB-303, FR-777, Juno 106 etc) and I love the sound. What I don't like is the work flow associated with them. Some of the arguments about whether Diva can emulate hardware seem a little backwards to me. I can do things in Diva I can't do easily on my 303 and even if I could it is just a pain to work with. No matter what the 303 sounds like, you can't play it like a normal keyboard. The sequencer has to be running. Programming it is tedious. I can't do pitch bending via a pb wheel on my 303 so it is not as easy to play with. It has to be tuned. This is not news to anyone that has used these pieces of equipment. Comes with the territory.

Diva makes things easier for me. It is not a better or worse comparison. I enjoy the sound of Diva and I could EASILY put it into a piece of music last night in a matter of minutes. The same thing would have literally taken a couple of hours to program into my 303. I don't care if the emulations are exact. It works and works well. For all the romanticising about the classic analog pieces you do have to remember that creation is much more of an effort with them and not in a good way.

I wish Diva ate less CPU cycles. I am able to work around that with the freeze function. It is a well done product that I am enjoying exploring. I am sure it will be improved upon in future releases and I look forward to that also.

It is not just that he is constantly marketing, but also is often making negative comments about Diva. He was remarkably rude in the Gearslutz Diva thread too. Most of the time though it is the passive aggressive stuff.
