I've got a really good method for creating good sounding tracks on my ipod touch. I found an app called EZ Composer...it's awesome. I create midi tracks with this..choose chords, pick instruments, drums, etc. and export the midi file. I then import that midi file into Music Studio...it automatically routes all the notes and instruments to their own track...I do this because I can get better instrument sound from Music Studio (xewton) It doesn't get all the instruments correct 100 percent of the time but that is easily fixed by tapping on the track and configuring a new instrument...not really a hassle. I then export the track and open it in Multitrack DAW...to add reverb and EQ. Now, here I use 2 ipod touch devices...one is loaded with Multitrack DAW and the other with JamUp. You have to have 2 interfaces to connect the two together. I add a track in DAW and record directly from the other ipod and can then configure the levels, eq, and reverb to mix each track. It actually sounds REALLY good for doing it all on my couch!! Here's a quick demo...let me know what you think and feel free to post your own methods! Thanks

No denying it does sound good.
But why not just use a laptop on your couch
Surely it would be easier and sound even better.

I would but my laptop is on its last leg...barely enough CPU to process two or three plugins on a single track in cubase or reaper. I'm also kind of trying to see if I can do a decent sounding album using just ios devices!!! It may seem a little tedious but I'll be happy if the end result sounds good!Mushy Mushy wrote:No denying it does sound good.

Compare the cost of a halfway decent laptop to the cost of two iPods.
Then add the hassles it takes to get this done on the latter, compared to the breeze it is achieving the very same thing on a decent machine running a decent OS (read: not as severely crippled as iOS).
It's like night and day, nothing less.
IMO iDevices have their benefits (I'm sequencing on my iPhone all the time), but using 3-4 different apps, along with the time it takes to boot them up, exchange files (which sometimes is only possible when you connect them to a computer anyway) and deal with that tiny screen is just a waste of time. And probably even a waste of money, too.
I'm extremely happy that my iPhone sometimes takes away the need to have my laptop with me, and I seriously love spending some quality time on the music apps available, but doing anything serious is achieved in a fraction of the time on whatever fine computer.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

For some of us- this is actually a way of getting out of creative ruts. I have all the desktop and laptop technology to do music faster and better than on an iOS device- but I want to see what I can do with iOS. And heck- my iPad 2 is slim and light- I don't have to worry about my expensive MacBook Pro (plus audio interface) to lug around when inspiration might hit me when playing Angry Birds!
