I think they should work on trying to add in features you find in other drummers so you can have multiple round-robin hits, and mic placements, and lots of the kinds of tweaks to the sound and so on you get with other e-drummers.

As far as Ilio do you mean the 5-pack bundle (Backbeat, Retro Funk, Metamorphosis, Burning Grooves and Liquid Grooves) or the 4-pack (Ethno Techno, Stark Raving Beats, Skippy's Big Bad Beats and Skippy's Noizbox)? The 4-pack is getting tough to find. I like parts of each, and I think they're as good as the stock stuff. I especially like Burning, Liquid, Ethno and Stark, because these include acid rock, fusion and world stuff, some of my fav genres.

So NI releases hardware to complete komplete 8. Big deal. I don't see the point in Spectrasonics following NI's example. It's not that I need more hardware in my studio. A simple plugin update will sufice a long way for me.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that RMX will be optimized for iPad use. Each screen will be iPad size. I do think touch screens are the future of music software. Unfortunately, even though the iPad 2 lags behind other pads in important ways (read PCWorld), it's the one with the apps and that everyone will be designing for for the next few years at least. Honeycomb and Android are not happening the way they should be yet, and people just don't yet own touch screens for their PCs. Yet. That'll change as people get PC tablets like the Samsung and touch-enabled laptops with Windows 8.

Fair comment, and you might well be right.

One thing for sure is that Spectrasonics will have a very watchful eye on NI's success with the Maschine / Komplete hardware / software combo.

Are they going to let NI literally steal this new market - this new way of making music?

I don't know, so I can't say.

But I saw how "King Microsoft" let Apple get away with stealing the tablet market, thinking it wasn't a big deal at the time - until they saw Apple's sales figures and rising dominance

And like the iPad, Maschine is a conceptually new way of working that a lot of people are buying into (me included)

Everyone will draw their own conclusions - including Eric Persing.

"Conceptually new," is questionable. If you mean taking the groove and samples music making idea of the MPC, EMu Command Station, etc., then it's really an old idea.

Marrying that type of hardware, i.e., Maschine, to a computer based recording/ mixing/ sample storing process, is, the way I look at it, a hybridization or two different music making technologies.

I think I'd call it 'cutting edge' more than conceptually new.

Cheap touch screens have been around for years in supermarket checkouts.

So have tablet-style computers.

So have tiny wifi units.

So maybe iPad is a cutting edge hybrid too.

Logic suggests this.

LOL ... I'm down with that.

But maybe use of a wireless touch screen device as a control surface is more 'slashing, cutting edge.'

Seriously, though, I think the music production 'concept' of Maschine is really identical to that of the AKAI MPC, etc.

But I should mention, unlike the MPCs, Maschine can host Stylus RMX!

I posted this on a different thread, but...

I don't know if this list is complete (or if there will be "surprise" exhibitors), but if it's accurate, then Spectrasonics may not be at this NAMM since they are not specifically mentioned on the exhibitor list.

http://www.namm.org/thenammshow/2012/directory
(If you select "Computer" and "Software" you will get a list...)

However, ILIO is listed so perhaps S might show up there....?

@digitalboytn: I would love it if that is true

I want to say that the 9-volt audio and e-soundz are the best other libraries I have. Also, check out Bolder Sounds Buffalo Drums.
