So let me get this right... and I own and like them both really ... just so I understand your reasoning completely.

Even though S1's drag and drop goes a good bit farther functionally than Reaper's overall, it's "propaganda" for the company to use it as a selling point but yet and still Reaper's drag and drop (which is actually quite good and has some really clever bits but doesn't go quite as far as S1's overall) is "superb".

Yeah... that makes sense. Thanks.

Oh... KVR... you're ... special. :)
I read that aloud and it didn't make any sense to me. But having artist, plus the chance to demo v2, I wholeheartedly disagree that S1's drag and drop goes a farther than reaper. But maybe our experience levels and needs in each DAW are different.

But hey...go on being special.

And I agree with the poster - you are being defensive.

I hear you. It depends on how you use it and for what and what you're actually aware of as relates to the interface. My only point is (well would have been :)) that if you don't know a thing (or method) is there, you won't use it. It may be the case that you're using menus or dialog functions in some cases where D&D can do it directly. I don't know since I don't know how you work.

Some examples...

Some people aren't aware that you can drag directly from Win explorer to the browser to create a new tab.

Some people aren't aware that you can drag midi notes directly from the ME to arrange to make new clips.

Some aren't aware that you can drag the entire mixer directly to the file system to capture every plugin chain preset in the entire song, 10 tracks or 100.

Some aren't aware that you can drag/drop the entirety of arrange (all audio or midi clips) directly out to make audio file consolidations or Type 1 midi files or bundled files with both things and instrument + plug-in chain references.

It's often the case (there or anywhere else really) that a thing can't be useful or helpful if you don't know about it. Like the legions of people who never really knew what lurked in the Cubase logical editor. So in some cases people just don't know all the various little methods in there. Same goes for Reaper.

I mean seriously, you see some random kid on the net complaining about how awkward it is to load a drum map from the dialog there in the ME, and it is a bit klunky, and how it's a major fail and all that... while all my drum maps are listed in a folder in the browser. If I need an EZD map I just drop it on the ME. If you don't know how to best use a thing, you'll (not you specifically) have issues with any of them.

Anyway... no point in continuing down this path. Thanks man.

Fair enough. You do recall that this little silly dust up was started by your comment right... the "propaganda" thing? I was only suggesting that the comment had no actual basis in fact... that they do indeed have a reason to push that part of their product because it actually lives up to the hype in that case.

Now for some reason that's still beyond my understanding, you took that as me attacking Reaper I guess. Not sure why.

It was not me defending (or being defensive about) anything. It was just me attempting to present some actual facts (silly me? :)), with some specific data to support them, not trying to win any silly debate that I didn't even know I was in.

But it's perfectly ok to agree to disagree.

Thanks man.

Time for a regularly scheduled KVR break.

How do you get uninstalled audio devices out of the Studio One drop down menu?

I never said reading the manuals was the same as demoing the DAWs. I'm just saying, for example, seeing a side by side comparison of the drag-n-drop features of S1 V2 and Reaper in a KVR forum post would be more convenient than downloading and installing both demos and searching through the manuals for the same information.

Who's "talking shit"? You're not saying a detailed feature to feature comparison equals "talking shit" are you?

Sure. But just for the record, I made a general comment (snide, I'll admit) - not directed at you, if anything at S1 on hyping up their drag and drop. You took it upon yourself to take up the flag and run with it using some semblance of "logic" and "facts". You created the debate.

I agree that this is silly.

For the OP, my vote is reaper. A non commercial license is peanuts compared to S1 - is uncrippled, fully featured, has an extremely helpful forum, great routing (I use it as audio editor), and is good for a 2 major revs.

My only advice is that you gain a passing understanding of macros (to create your own - bone simple), learn some of the track managements tools and templates (in case of multi-timbral instruments) and not get too caught up on all the options.

But Studio one has only one skirt in her wardrobe, no sexy girl would only have one skirt. :)

a question if you will.. does S1 allow for thirdparty sidechaining yet? I have only seen this in PT but I haven't dug too deep in other DAWs
With VST 3 plugs, sure. With VST2.x plugs, no clue, never tried it. I recall Cubase used quad busses for that and S1 has none of those. So, maybe not, no clue.
Thanks Lawrence I know your a big fan of S1, I tried it and liked V1, maybe I'll switch over as working between a laptop and my main system with Cubase's dongle can be annoying and a big motivation to jump aboard they are quite alike anyway. I thought one way of trimming down Cubase would be if Steinberg followed S1's time/productivity flow with similar windowing and then making things like score and picture sync optional extras.. reducing cost and the clutter that some feel is there.

Re the sidechain the same in cubase you can with VST3 but quad's only for anything else and that is a PITA.

...as you were ladies and gents let the contest continue

I'm a big fan of good software. Vegas, FLStudio, S1, Reaper, Camtasia, the list goes on and on.
