I recall reading a post a long time ago from an engineer who worked with Karl Bartos that for his solo stuff he used speech synthesizer software on a PC (Shit-Talker) to create phonemes which he then fed to a sampler. But I'll be damned if I can find the reference on Google or Usenet so I could just be talking out of my butt.

There is an old program from the Plus package for Windows 95 or 98 called Talk It! that does very good "robot" voices. If you've ever heard the "" or "" songs, that's the speech synthesizer used for those. It's a tiny binary so you can find it if you google for TALKANY.EXE.

you can define any phoneme sequence, or you can choose predefined words from a dictionary. You can experiment with different clock frequencies to get a wide range of voice pitches.

That is incredibly generous of you! I never did dig through my garage in search of my C64 cart... out of sight is out of mind, I guess.

Regarding "Talk It!" and "Shit Talker", both of use the standard Microsoft voices. There are many programs capable of accessing that library and generating speech, and they all offer the same assortment of voices.
