This just gave me a great idea. KVR should have a "Stocks" section where the offending post that got the person banned (expletives deleted) is posted so they can get publicly shamed. Non-banned KVRers can then reply/post photos of rotten vegatables and, of course, LOLcats.SJ_Digriz wrote:YESkritikon wrote:45 pages of shite about X/Y/Z vs analogue. Though he didn't mention him, you can not beat Freud; all this crap is just expression of another kind of defence:mcnoone wrote:Hey that was a really great post.PAK wrote:Yes. The biggest variable is between the people who post sound comparisons......"
..... maybe that explains the "more hostile" reception software often gets too, when it uses existing hardware as its inspiration.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectualization
Intellectualization is a defense mechanism where reasoning is used to block confrontation with an unconscious conflict and its associated emotional stress, by 'using excessive and abstract ideation to avoid difficult feelings'.
This thread is still about small penis syndrome or related neuroses.

I just designed a car that impersonates a Ferrari, Maserati, and Porsche. To be clear, I use the word "Impersonate" right in the name of the vehicle. It is not exactly the same, just (IMHO), closer than anyone else has come.
I'm pricing it at a tenth of those cars. You can drive more than one at any time. It uses a bit more gas then some other impersonators, but unlike the real thing, it needs no maintenance, and I'm improving/updating it for free. Oh - and you can mix and match components (put a Ferrari engine with a Porsche suspension and Maserati body - that sort of thing.)
I tested it and it's pretty damned close. The Ferrari claims 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, it seems my car is closer to 3.7. Also, some people have noticed that the Maserati red isn't exactly the same if you look at it in a certain light. Likely you'll only notice these differences in context of comparison - on the street, virtually no one can tell.
Did I mention it's 1/10 the price, and you can have as many as you like as long as you don't give any away to your friends?
BTW, I'm proud of this, and the complaints piss me off a little, 'cause I think you guys are totally missing the point. It's fine to do comparisons, it helps me work towards making it better. But a little slack - it costs 1/10 the price. You don't need to do any maintenance. It pretty much always works. I'll fix and improve it for free. And I never said it was EXACTLY the same as those cars, but it even has features those cars don't. Some slack?

(sorry for the whole "fanboi" thing, but as a software engineer, I have a big soft spot for the devs, no pun intended)

I think Diva is way overpriced as is so many other soft synths.
Dont get me wrong I am all for the developers making a cool return for their hard work but I am sure Urs said he'd returned his entire research and development costs within a week or so of releasing it.
That suggests to me that something isn't quite right.
Yeah I know he will update and continue to add modules and that's
where the real value exists.
But even so its a rich mans toy.
Having said that it sounds really good
and I wish him all the success in the future because we need developers who try to offer something new, something brave.
I am still a huge fan of Zebra which never fails to bring a smile to my face when I want to dial up something new and unusual.

There is a very easy fix. You can spend hundreds or thousands of your own hours in engineering classes, then digging through modeling techniques, then learning programming, then learning SDKs for synth development and all the other trivialities that go into making VSTi. Then, and only then, will I think you have the knowledge to know what constitutes the correct price for what is produced. You will, of course, be free to release your work for free at that time.aquar wrote:I think Diva is way overpriced as is so many other soft synths.

You obviously have no idea how expensive high quality musical instruments are, soft-synths these days are affordable to anybody with a job and some common sense. Diva is great value imo, especially with having the early-bird discount.

I actually don't give a shit how much high quality hardware costs and if I did I'd purchase the real deal and free myself of all the bullshit softsynths offer me.
Soft Synths are exactly what they say on the tin. Soft.
Sure there are a lot of mugs here that will do anything to find an edge over their competitors in the vain hope that they can somehow purchase success but I am not one of them.
I grew up in an age where talent counted for far more than anything that you could buy.
Hardware Synths give you something tangible, something you can touch. Something you can't download from another torrent site and something you can prolly sell in many years to come and in some cases at a profit.
Try selling a software license in 10 years time and see how much you will get.
You'd prolly get more for a blunt bic disposable razor.
Really the soft synth era is a ripoff of the highest order (imo)

Out of all the virtual synths installed Diva does have a silky smooth analogue vibe going on and is definately one I would like to see OTB. Maybe Urs could team up similar way StudioLogic have with Waldorf
I would love to have a standalone 'Diva Ace Zebra' hardware synth...allowing out of the box controls (pot's/slider and the like see Arturias latest MiniBrute offerring) then Urs would have a winner...
Synth DAZ Automatic (or is that washing powder)
