A bit late in the day, but just thought I'd spill out some thoughts :)
Good post... While I agree that none are emulating them fully, developers are getting closer. Diva is another step in that direction.

Soft Synths are exactly what they say on the tin. Soft.

Sure there are a lot of mugs here that will do anything to find an edge over their competitors in the vain hope that they can somehow purchase success but I am not one of them.

I grew up in an age where talent counted for far more than anything that you could buy.

Hardware Synths give you something tangible, something you can touch. Something you can't download from another torrent site and something you can prolly sell in many years to come and in some cases at a profit.
Try selling a software license in 10 years time and see how much you will get.
You'd prolly get more for a blunt bic disposable razor. :)

Really the soft synth era is a ripoff of the highest order (imo)
You are right... as far as a financial investment... but I don't buy instruments as an investment, I buy them to make sounds I like for playing music and the software synths I have today blow any hardware I have had out of the water, including my old OB.

Softsynth lover! You love softsynths! You would marry a softsynth! Everybody knows. Come out of the closet, softsynth lover!

I think that is where the misunderstanding comes from...these things are not 'investments' as such.

I buy based on what works with my pallet of sounds..if it sounds good, I buy it.

i dunno if that's a typo, but TBH pallet is as apt as palette. :hihi:

Which begs the question why are so many developers and users trying so hard to emulate the hardware synths of yesteryear.?
Isn't that the rough philosophy of what Diva is trying to achieve ?
You know to emulate things that once were but in a purely digital enviroment ?

Its like there's a mindset in the softsynth world where everything must sound phat and analogue in order to be credible when the real credibility most often comes from being original and unique.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because some of us like the sounds of yesteryear, I myself am drawn to 1982/83/84 Electro Funk sounds, getting a softsynth that sounds 100% like an old Prophet 5, Juno, Minimoog would be great, the intergration with your DAW is easier too, also for alot of people it about cost, they cannot afford a real analogue. It's an alternative solution and also can teach subtractive synthesis...

Vim Cortex makes Electro Funk based music using VST's for synth sounds and it sounds great btw. It fooled my ears...

Yes, that's exactly what I mean, To me Poly-Ana, OP-X Pro II, Synthix, PolyKB II, Alchemy and Diva all seem more than capable of doing this stuff, it then probably comes down to production and musicianship after that, I'm still learning this shit, started late(poor childhood)...but the more I go on with it the more I'm appreciating the softsynth world and really like these virtual analogue synths...I used to be a sceptic, that was because I didn't know what the £%$^ I was doing, I now turn them knobs...

I've been demoing Diva, it seems a bit more Cpu friendly since the beta now. I'll demo Poly-Ana this week too... :D

Please do. (And it's still half price until the end of January!) Those others are all quality products too, try 'em all!

That's so funny that it's totally worthy of being repeated at least once more! If I had you blocked, I'd take you off just for being that funny, that's how funny it was.
