So we don't go down the route of the external drive... I promise to lsiten to each and every suggestion. Well maybe PMs only if someone knows of something good.

The problem was that I didn't know the importance of 7200 rpm when I got the computer. I got the most GB... sigh I'm a fool sometimes. Anyway, this has to be rectified!

I'll make the midi file. It'll take a while, but I'll get the problem.

NOTE: It only seems to occur when playing SOLO instruments.
Actually, the need for 7200 rpm drives is not something that is exclusive to KH libraries. In the world of streaming samples, it's pretty much been a foregone conclusion that the best performance is to be achieved by fast drives, such as 7200 or faster.

(hit the "RPM" header twice to sort speed descending)
I assumed you mean a replacement internal drive from your wording -- otherwise, it's a totally different search. Also, I've never replaced an internal HDD on a laptop Mac before, so I don't know how easy/difficult Apple makes it -- their desktop HDDs were always pleasantly easy to swap out though.

Make sure to check reviews and shipping cost too; don't just end the search with that link.

(Also, +1 to freaking out at it being 5400. :P)

Honestly, a much better solution would be to get an external usb 2 or firewire 7200HD. Streaming your samples from an external drive is always better than streaming from your application drive.

No one told me that it would be such a problem. Also, since I spent on KH libraries I don't have change for a hard drive, nor the cost of installation (someone else would have to do it for me.)

Well, after some investigation, I think I found one of the sources of my problem:

Consistently, every single note with velocity 51 has no sound. The problem seems to be purely velocity based then! Changing the velocity to another value fixes the problem entirely unless, of course, the velocity is set to another defunct value. This should be very helpful!

http://www.mediafire.com/?9t6sf2z5rr8umoz (.midi exported from Cubase as type 0 midi)

I marked the points of interest via a second track in the midi that has no sound.

EDIT: not the external drive search again :(. The only PERFECT ones that I could find are extremely expensive, and the ones everyone suggested... I'm not sure. Such a pain :(.

By the way, how important is the cache? 16 is the average number, while 32 is around. there's a $1000 64 cache one! (ouch)

It's written on our system requirements page:

Well, I'm pretty sure the problem is based on velocity. The problem occurs 100% of the time for affected notes... I wonder if the fact that I compressed the files did this. I need to be able to compress them though.

Once again, a midi or Logic file would help me figure it out for you.

...you responded to one of my posts with the midi file in it... Hold on I'll re-link it...or better yet, copy and paste the message.

Hmm.. didn't come thru on this end.

See above.

There are only two explanations that I can come up with:

1- this is a bona fide velocity bug

2- when I compressed the files to NCW, something went wrong. There were a couple missing file dialogues that I ignored. Luckily I backed up the files before they were compressed. I can check that in a day or two if necessary. I'm pretty sure that the compression is fine though. The missing dialogues may have referred to some files that were simply renamed during the Ruby + Emerald = Diamond process.

Tried to recreate the previously mentioned problem and document it if it exists so others could recreate it.

Using Sonar X1-
Created a project, 127 bars using one note (C3) per bar and scaled the velocity on each bar.
Bar 1 - note velocity 1
Bar 127 - note velocity 127.

Found an issue using Diamond TVEC with Kontakt 4
- 03_bass_instruments
- a Basses 5,3,2,1 Players All Articulations.nki
- Solo F#4, Articulation: Smooth C#6 through Adagio F6
notes played with MIDI velocities 46 through 51 are silent.

I do not know if this problem exists in other areas - this was all the time I to explore the issue.

Here's the MIDI file - use right click and save as:

Edited post for clarity.

Found the bug. I'll post the fixes tomorrow at http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/upgrade.html
