Ok, thanks. But a forum format is more accessible for extended discussions, was hoping one had materialised.

AKJ wrote:Hi,

so far, I found the following bugs in Diamond (yes, I have applied the update). Kirk, can you please test/verify and provide fixes:

1. VPRO Solo Brass: same bug as with Woodwinds (IntervaLive down does produce noise) where it was fixed. The VPRO instruments are important since some insturments are not present in the TVEC3 versions (i.e. trumpet a, trombone a and french horn a).
2. TVEC3 Woodwinds: English Horn, Obow and Clarinet feature some sustain sounds from Trumpet A. That does not sound right.

I would appreciate an answer/fixes.

Cheers, AKJ
Hi Kirk,

good to see you here. What about these bugs. Can you reproduce/verify? Will they get fixed?
Diamond solo brass a instruments are also fixed at http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/update.html
thanks, that's great!!! But what about the solo brass b and the trumpet references in the woodwinds? is the latter intentional?

cheers, akj

I wonder about this as well.

Post

it appears to me that the trumpet samples have been used (maybe with an applied filter or somwething) to fake-extend the range. However, to my ears it does not sound good. I can, of couse, avoid those samples but just skipping the upper notes, but I do not understand, why this has been done. What is more, imo the original VPRO patches deliver a much better sound for reasons I do not understand as it is (expect from the used trumpet samples the same sample content). I will post an example later...

Post

you can find some examples of the Diamond English Horn here (I just created a very simple midi file, not using any keyswitches; included reverb was deactivated with all examples, I used a convolution reverb vst instead):

http://www.power-xs.net/download/eh_vpro.mp3

(This is the original version included in Diamond, and it sounds imo quite good. I just loaded the patch as it comes, no settings tweaked)

http://www.power-xs.net/download/eh_tve ... ive_on.mp3

(In this example I loaded the tvec3 version of the English Horn. I can here a glitch which is most likely created by intervalive)

http://www.power-xs.net/download/eh_tve ... ve_off.mp3

(Here, I deactovated intervalive and the glitch was gone. But soundwise in comparison to the vpro-version imo: night and day. the clear winner is the original patch)

http://www.power-xs.net/download/eh_tve ... e_off2.mp3

(Here I tried if I could achieve by tweaking the tvec3-patch the same sound as in the vpro-example - but failed)

I really wonder how much better the original patch sounds. Maybe, I am doing something wrong, but it seems that (at least out of the box) tvec3 is not always good. So it's great that we also have the original patches.

cheers, akj

So... I'm about seven minutes away from being finished with my Diamond download, which means that now I have the entire collection. I'm not on the zippiest connection so that feels like quite an accomplishment and I somehow felt like I wanted to share that with someone. :)

Btw, been listening to some of the demos that you guys have been posting and those have kept me inspired. I can't wait to try my own hand at using some of these instruments!
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

This is all CB2, and mostly CS2 but with a smattering of EWQL strings to give some depth here and there.

I have noticed this also.

I generally use the woodwinds from the "Older_Versions" folder.
They sound better.
The TVEC somehow changes the sound and also has affected the attacks and the quickness of the staccatos.

I was just fooling around with Solo Strings 1 that I have in the Diamond package.
I find the older, original Solo Strings to sound better than the TVEC versions.
The TVEC has better playability, but the original sounds better, has better attacks and the strong attack articulations blend better with the sustains.
In the TVEC 3, if I use the marcatto or spiccato articulations the sustain portion swells too much.

In almost every instrument I have gone back to using the original versions rather than the TVEC 3.

Problem: TVEC 3 - popping when switching between articulations (when note is sustained)

I have noticed in my TVEC3 instruments (Diamond, CS2 and CS3) that I get a pop or click sound when both 1) a note is sustained 2) I either keyswitch or mouse switch between articulations.

* This click does not occur when switching / keyswitch if no note is playing. The click only occurs when a note is playing during an articulation switch.
* In some instruments, the click occurs when playing a sustained sound (smooth or adagio) and switching to a sound that contains one of the short attack samples(Accent PP, Accent MF, Accent FF, Short). In other instances, click occur on all articulation switching.
* Other non-articulation switch in TVEC3 doesn't cause this problem.
* This click does not occur when doing similar switching in TVEC2 versions on my system.

Has anyone else experienced this popping? I have the latest full version of Kontakt 4 installed for PC Windows w/ 2GB RAM.

Thanks in advance! I absolutely LOVE the sound of these libraries!!!!!!!

EDIT 2/7/12:
Kirk tested this and followed up directly with me. This appears to most likely be a limitation of my older setup. As of this post I have not heard of anyone else having this issue.

Thanks for the updates. If you have more than one library it is not an easy thing to differentiate.

I appreciate a great deal like everyone else but I have to say this is a mess. I would rather download the entire library again, as a whole, with the fixes already in place as opposed to this piecemeal approach. Sorry, I know this must seem uncharitable but after spending days to download the original files then having to insert all the updates separately... I just can't keep track anymore. I don't have it in me to spend weeks sorting it all out. I have no doubt that at some point I've screwed the pooch with one of these updates and will find out at the worst possible moment.

I did. What I'm getting at is that there are updates all over the place, I have lost track of what's what because there have been so many and the file names don't differentiate between libraries. I have no idea where to start over. It will take days of work to piecemeal it all back together for the three libraries I purchased and I just don't have it in me after all the work already invested. It shouldn't be like this. I can't begin to imagine how I would feel if I would have paid full price. Again, I'm sorry if this seems ungrateful but what started out as a fantastic deal is turning into a high maintenance $400.00 distraction. Maybe I'll feel different tomorrow, or in a week, but right now having a cup of tea and coming back to it isn't even appealing.

I think I have it sorted but only time will tell. Its so frustrating. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but there it is; I keep finding cavities and loose fillings. :bang: :tantrum:

I know Kirk is paying a lot of attention to this and doing all he can to resolve the issues. It doesn't make it any less frustrating, though.

I agree that it can be a little confusing.
A little better documentation within the rar files and on the web site would go a long way in eliminating confusion.

2 things
  • Just download the January updates.
From what I saw everything else is already contained in the regular downloads available to the group buy customers.
  • Organize your downloads by saving them in separate folders, such as "Diamond Updates" or "CS2 Updates".
This will prevent a lot of headaches later.
Also - if you don't have a file/folder comparison tool get one.
For the PC I use Beyond Compare by http://www.scootersoftware.com/ - and it has saved my rear countless times. It made it a lot easier to figure out exactly what was what.

Edit: I just saw your post, I must have been typing when it came up. Glad you got things sorted out.

On the Mac side when I have to manually update something or just add non standard plugins I take a snapshot of the original structure and then I give to new files and folders a different color. This help me later to better understand what has been updated. And yes, I sorted it in 30 mins but it was a little intimidating when I begun :)
