Off joking, I'd say, that prototypic supersaws were in principle available in all analog synth that had at least 3 x OSC that could be, layered, octaved and detuned, including the minimoog.

Then there is a beast like Jupiter 8 in which you could detune osc 1 + 2 and further layer two patches. If you used a seq, you could use the polyphony and add additional octaves for a massive supersaw effect.

There is also the "ensembly" chorus on the polysix that gave it kind of supersaw like abilities.

But is it not really the "Hoover" sound from alpha Juno 1 which is the prototypical supersaw sound? If this is the case, then it has nothing to do with stacking and detuning saws, but simply a nice saw + pulse + sub wave that is pitch modulated with fast LFO and send through a fast and half-dirty fat chorus.

Anyway...kind of OT I see...nevermind then! 8)

Well, A supersaw came about with the Roland JP-8000. They decided that they would make an oscillator that could duplicate its self in the output signal, and the tuning of each one could be spread apart symmetrically 'pitch wise' within the range of one whole tone. This produces the effect that you have a whole symphony of saw waves. This can be extremely desirable in music like Trance, and Drum and Bass, and Hardcore.

If you're not into that, then that's your business, and it is much respected.
Thanks! Yea I've made a supersaw now in alchemy with unison 10 and it sounds quite good. higher than 20 and it start to sound crappy. I think this sound is also very useful for synth music, not just trance, d&b etc. (which - you are right - i'm not into! :hihi: ). ... wait ... i do like d&b ... some .......... at least!

Sorry bub, but a Super-Saw only has 7 saws. not 16..
the 7 saws are detuned and the center saw
1 2 3 (4) 5 6 7

remains the same pitch.. so I don't know what you're smoking, but it sure makes fro a great thick saw mix. .. that is if you like it to sound noisy.

Just get Adam Szabo's JP6K and be done with it.

Well, don't. It's becoming spammy, and spammers get... "stopped."
