Hi all,

Please take a look at the gear in my sig.
I'm wanting to get a laptop (less than 1.5k would be really nice) to do all my music. I use an MAudio Fastrack Pro to connect to the Kurtz. I was thinking either i5 or i7 with 8 GB and 1 or 1.5 HDD in 17 inches. Should this do? Do I need that much internal space if it's only for music (I'm mostly thinking about the VSTs - not my files themselves).

Any brand/model recommendations would also be great. TIA.
Kawai MP11, Apogee Duet, MPB 2018, Komplete 10, Spectrasonics Trinity, Ivory II, Pianoteq 6, Ravencroft 275, Logic X, Cubase 8, Spitfire Audio (most products), Superior Drummer 3, ST4

I use an ACER notebook with i7, 1.5 TB, 17 inch and 8 GB RAM for my music production.
Totally happy with it !
I paid 1200 EUR for it about a year ago.

I do need the 1.5 TB, btw, as I have ~500 GB of samples for Kontakt alone.

Never looked back on the times when I used a desktop computer.

The Notebook has so many advantages, especially the portability. I can take it to the band rehearsal or my living room where I connect it to the TV via HDMI.
I even took it to my sleeping room when I was sick and made some music while lying in bed :)

You must be joking, I got an MBA 13" i7 1.8 ghz 4 GB ram 250GB and it's ok as all the CPU is handled by my hardware (no vsti, just a few vst).

Did you read the OP's post ????
Kurzweil PC3x, Komplete 6,Omnisphere, Trilian, Stylus RMX, Ivory II, SampleTank 2XL, SonikSynth 2, Miroslav Philharmonic, GPO 4, Superior Drummer 2.0, Sebilius 6, Cubase 5
If you want to sell him a mac at least go for the $$$$ pro.

Not to start an irrelevant argument, but the MBA's i7 will run everything mentioned just fine. My MBP from 2009 with a Core 2 Duo still runs all of that.

Now, the MBA doesn't remotely fit his needs otherwise (screen size, disk space, etc) but to say the MBA doesn't have enough processing power is erroneous.
