Now this is something I think I can use. I want to hear the audio demos, but once I do, I will probably buy it.

Looking forward to it.

Thanks man :) Just saved me waiting for it to rain (like that is odd, in Seattle) so i could record it for something i have in mind.

How do you like the ZOOM H-1, if I may ask? Can you hold it in your hand without any "noise", or do you have to isolate it?

I ask, as I am looking for an alternative to my (now OLD) Tascam DR-1, which has never been usable for field recording without it being 'suspended'.

The ZOOM H1 can be held in your hand with no noise, depending upon how steady your hand is.... It is also sensitive to wind. But I have found that using my body to block the wind works, for the most part.

COOL!!!

Thank you. The DR-1 has been relegated to sitting next to my mouse/keyboard, on my desk, as the default recorder for my audio "doodlings", as it can NOT be held without picking-up every movement of your hand. Even when you aren't "moving".

I do have lots of 'wind-screens', so I'll check out the H1 for sure.

Good luck with it. I am finding it to be very interesting.....

There is a learning curve to blocking the wind with your body....

It looks like the H1 has a camera adaptor fitting underneath. I bought a silicon sleeve for my Zoom H2, which helped with handling noise, but I also tried wrapping the mic adaptor that came with it (that uses the camera adaptor) in several layers of self-amalgamating tape, and using that as a handle. I also tried it with a gorillapod which worked okay too. Y

Ive got the H4N now, and Ive used one of these rigs with it:

I'm not so sure about the difference the windscreen made, TBH, although it howling a gale when I tried it, but the shockmount worked great. Im still trying to improve the mic-adaptor-as-handle, since the Rycote rig is about £60 even without the windshield.

Oh, and try wearing gloves. That helps with handling noise too.

Had not thought of wearing gloves, will give that a try....

Most of the Rain on Cement sounds were recorded by just placing the recorder on the coffin in our garage, out of the wind, and just letting it record...

bump....
