I don't know how popular this app is but i am finding it very handy:
http://chordbot.com/
Key features
60 chord types
Including classics like Aug7(#9) and Min11(b5). Should be enough for anything but the most esoteric bebop songs.
20+ comping styles
Simple but usable guitar/piano/synth based backgrounds.
Auto inversion
Chordbot will automatically select the inversion that is best suited to follow the current chord.
Slash chords
Lets you specify the bass note for each chord.
Transposition
Easily transpose songs to any key.
Song-O-Matic
Automatic song generator with profiles for pop, jazz and avant-garde.
MIDI/WAV file export
Refine your compositions in Cubase/Logic/GarageBand, etc.
Live editing
Change chords/tempo/style while the song is playing.
Chordbot's comping styles are designed to be simple but useful. No gratuitous brass fills, just unobtrusive patterns that won't get in the way of your compositions.
Chordbot's styles aren't based on prerecorded loops but work as dynamic sequencer templates that are used to synthesize your songs in real-time. The songs are then played back with instrument samples from Chris Collins excellent General User GS soundfont.

I use Pro Chords to work on the progression. Then I enter those chords into ChordBot to hear how it sounds in different styles.
Pro Chords has dropped from $8.99 to $2.99 again.

Oh that's not on Android, I wonder if there is something similar, that sounds very interesting. 'What to play next' is always alluding me. I just bought EasyBand as well, it acts more like a DAW-formatted left to right player, I think I can get plenty of inspiration from these two apps

i use Chordbot a lot. I'll send the MIDI and the audio to my computer and manipulate it more there. great for experimenting with chords I don't know, or just writing songs when I'm away from my gear. the guys I collaborate with all got it as well and we'll send tracks back and forth to each other to play with. totally one of my best app purchases ever.
here's a track I did with it:

I believe it is identical, I think the point is to be basic, not get in the way, and sound good with any progressions.

Pro Chords sounds interesting, is anything like it on Android?

thanks. i did get the pro version, and that particular song has the piano that comes with chordbot but I reversed the individual chords, and did some tinkering with the drums and other sounds. it is definitely a limited palette but you can always just export the midi and use the chords and rearrange them to whatever rhythm you want (although i find it fun to try and make the audio sound interesting to my ears).knockman wrote:very nice track - that's made me take a closer look at Chordbot. The audio clips on the Chordbot site weren't doing it for me, although that's probably my failing - should be listening to the chord progressions and not the sounds.

Seems interesting. Can someone tell what is the difference between the free and paid version?

full version has more features. the lite version is good for writing, but you can't export the tracks you make.:gravehill wrote:Seems interesting. Can someone tell what is the difference between the free and paid version?
