YES! This happens to me too! I'm glad it's not just me. What I have found works consistently is to open FL with no project, then use teh File menu to open the troublesome project. Then it hangs for a second, but DOES open.bluedad wrote:one reason I get pissed off at fl studio, is that the last few times I've begun something, when I come back to open the tune and work on it - it gets hung up looking for something and won't open again!

You don't need to clone the pattern. If the Kick, Hats, and Snare are different channels (i.e not slices of a single sample or something) then you just assign each channel to a different FX bus.wrench45us wrote: and say I want to put a phaser or flanger on the hihats and compressor on the kick drum and reverb on the snare (and maybe the hihats too)
my understanding is I need to clone the one pattern into three, separate out the elements I want into the three channels
For example, my setup:
Kick always goes to FX-1
Hats always go to FX-2
Snare always goes to FX-3
...
Bass always goes to FX-17
There is a litle box in the top-right corner of the channel window (the one that pops up when you click a channel in step-sequencer window). Set that to teh FX bus number.what I'm missing, using that method, is how I then assign a given channel to a given mixer channel.

Alt-V (in a piano-roll view) ?fleetmouse wrote: - How do I turn on that onion-skinning feature?
Did it slice correctly at the 5 beats? In the slicer window, click the 4th button (looks like a piano-roll) and try the different options - especially 'Snap'. More often than not it works (for me) but sometimes it needs to be done manually. <shrug> Dunno why.- When I cut up a 5/4 drumloop in the slicer, it always tries to fit it into a 4/4 bar length. If I change the pattern length to 5, it still squeezes the sliced loop into the space of 4 quarter notes. Argh! I even paid extra for the beatslicer tool and it still doesn't work properly.

Yes! I love this feature. I'll eventually be creating some stock jazz chord progressions for practicing, etc. And this feature makes it so quick and easy to recall the work I've done and assign it to whatever synth I'm in the mood to hear at the time.you may like this file a lot (that is not from me but i don't remember the name of the "originator")

That are modes, scales, "scaled" chords, just extract the folder in FL\data\patches\scores to have it amongst other score files (btw you can save your own score files)

That's interesting since that was the original reason I bought the Fruit way back in Feb 2002.Yes! I love this feature. Contrary to what has been said here before (by Stu.Macq) - FL *does* search for missing samples in all directories specified in the "Sample Directories" list. The only way it will fail to find your samples - if they don't exist in any of the folders that FL searches.
We have not had reports of FL not being able to open projects. If it takes a long time - it means it's searching for something that is missing. Instead of closing FL you should let it finish.
If there's infact a consistent failure - you should probably report it on Techsupport rather than here and work with Elke and others to discover what the cause is.

The Forum search engine is useless, I can't find it. Reproducing it is hard at best, and it only happens on relatively complex projects. When I did post it, a few people said "works for me".

So are you happy with your purchase so far? I think FLStudio is a hell of a bargain. I'm finding it hard to NOT to get the licence. I've been playing with the demo and getting more addicted.Sh@ne S@nders wrote:

Yes, I think it was a good investment. My worst case scenario is that I end up with another complex plug-in since FL will run as ReWire or VSTi/DXi in other hosts. So I feel confident that even if I find something like Podium or Tracktion to be a better 'master' host in the end, I'll still be able to get something out of FL (since I won't have to pay for upgrades). For now, however, I'm going to give FL a try as the hub of it all. I use Adobe Audition for multi-tracking, and so some issues that concern others don't really affect me at all. I simply always plan on using a second app for recording instruments. Host progs like FL and Orion would become bloatware if they tried to outdo the app formerly known as Cool Edit Pro.AD80 wrote:So are you happy with your purchase so far? I had reached a point where I wanted to do certain production techniques with a lot of my non-experimental tracks, and I was running into a lot of brick walls with Orion as far as getting those goals in motion. Much of this had to do with general stability and also with automation and VSTi integration. But I made a lot of good music in Orion and I will continue to use it from time to time (but I won't upgrade anymore unless all of my issues are addressed). Orion has a lot going for it, too.
I don't look forward to figuring out how to port my material over to FL, though. But I know the process of doing so will force me to think extremely hard about what is important in each of my tracks, and I'll end up editing out things that are keeping those tracks 'average'. As a writer, I need to learn how to let material breathe a little. I can't seem to write much that's simple, but I esteem 'simple' more and more as I go along. My goal is to get 9 tracks reworked in FL by the end of August, and then finally release an album of material that more people will enjoy. My other albums are for a niche audience at best, but I do have some things that have a wider appeal without being the least bit sell-out. I'm anxious to get those out of my system.
What things about FL are you digging at the moment?

The number one feature of FL, IMHO, is the fact that you can load it up and just start making sound. It's ready to go, and very simple. There is great complexity under the hood, and it is ready when you need it.
Not to say I don't have any issues with FL - I have a laundry list of things _I_ think are super important. Teh FL team has their own list which does not coincide with mine very often

Something I'm digging about FL this very moment:
The "last tweaked parameter" menu for automatable parameters. Linking things to controllers has never been easier. Just tweak a knob on your plugin, then go to the last tweaked menu and from there pick edit events, link to controller, etc.
I'm also loving the Keyboard Controller right now. Honestly, the Internal Contollers in FL make it so awesomer for me. I use the Peak Controller all over the place, and I'mstarting to use the Keyboard Contoller a lot lately too.

I have a better workflow for you (Smart) - keep the parameter list open in the browser. The last tweaked parameter - will be automatically highlited.
