Finally got most of my gear set up in the new house. It's been years since I've had a fully working studio, although TBH it's given me a decent break from being obsessed by music. Very therapeutic.

The full studio...
Image

Still one or two bits I couldn't fit in the rack (need to get a bigger one)
Image

Where the work gets done, and probably the two most useful synths most of the time...
Image

Where I spend most of my time...

Disco ball! :hyper: The light over the top is one of those that changes colour. I probably spend more time staring at that than doing any useful sounds
Image

And when I don't do anything I just peer out of the window and watch the Australasian harriers wheeling over the mountains. :hihi:

@kritikon ... very nice setup :tu:

Is that a DX100 on your desk? I've been offered one at a good price (under £100), and am wondering if I should go for it. I don't own am FM synth ...

Yup. Not sure if 100 quid is good or not - I don't think the prices ever got much above 3 figures. The DXs were a bit dodgy as far as sturdiness, so I'd make sure all the knobs and especially the data slider work OK. But, although I like analogues etc, I can't ever see myself letting go of the DX. They still knock the socks off anything for solid twangy basses - I could make way more bass with an old MS10 I used to have, but I always had to Eq it somehow to get it into a mix - whereas DX basses just fit right in, always.

The only thing with the DX100 is the small keyboard - personally I love it, because it's easy to fit on a desk, and you can sit it on your lap and play it with ease without doing the full studio thing. But I know people who couldn't play it. I just got used to the small keys. I think I'd rather have a keyboard version than a rack version of a DX (although those have plenty more features and more varied sound). The keyboard versions are fiddly enough to programme - I'd imagine the racks are a PITA.

Anyway - I'd say buy it. DXs are tinny for pads and leads, somewhat rigid in their sound, but those basses are superb. And for other sounds, you can always process the FM stuff through something else to make it more fluid. I think it's the cheapest h/w synth I own, but one of the most useful for dancey stuff, dub, all kinds of styles. It does a reasonable bass guitar sound too, which is always handy.

Hmm..I don' t know. All these analog synths? isn't that kind of treachery at KVR? We have to remember that analog synths sound different and not better, right?, so where are all the hyper modern VA and Wavetable synths and where are all the Software controllers? Uh-uh, someone is going to get into troubles here. :scared:

I'd happily exchange my studio for an old Fostex 4-track cassette recorder for that view out of the window.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. The view is everything! :)

Yours, is a very inspiring view, has to be said.
