Cubase annoyances (zooms and selections)

How is it possible to have the Key Editor change according to the track you have selected?

And how come the tracks wont remember their last zoom level in their editors?

I have tried setting it up in the preferences, maybe there is a magic combo to get it working????
I could get the track to key editor working but only with Auto Select Events under Cursor but i cant work with that on.

i have link editors marked... when i change track the last event selection stays.

my zoom levels are all on my last used zoom setting, cant find out to have them independent of each other.

I have a track open in drum editor and another in key editor, and list editor open and they all have different zoom. when I return to them nothing will have changed. I can't say any more than that right now.

Problem is during playback notes gets selected under the project cursor. Im thinking theres a way to tell the cursor not to select notes?

my syntax above isn't good I think. I had one of each editor open with link editors ticked and they all had their own zoom. I use it unticked as I want all the midi tracks editable at the same time, using the pref 'Select Channel/Track on Edit Settings' (where the 3 curvy horizontal lines icon next to the track name means edit one track when selected, edit all when not).

let me give a concrete example: if I double click a track I have opened in drum editor with 'link editors', it will open the default type of editor per my preferences, which is key editor. and all of the key editors will be the same zoom [under 'link editors']. however if I click on a track and specify via the MIDI menu, 'drum editor' that zoom can be independent.

there are numerous reasons I don't go for 'link editors', I don't find it too useful.

I always ensured that one was unticked. If I don't know what it means, I haven't found a compelling need to find out. I would say try it with that one unticked although as far as my tests for you went I didn't find it forced a dependent zoom. However I found what I said above, all key editors conforming.

yes, each type of editor has their own zoom level, but each editor wont swap zoom levels depending on the event you are playing back in it when its in linked mode. its tied down to a window state. I started off with Linked Editors cause thats just how i think, i want 1 global window for the same type of events so i dont have to run around the interface with opening and closing 100 of windows for the the parts that i want to review during sequencing. I browse tracks, then parts, not the other way around.

Have you seen how pepople are reviewing their work in cubase on youtube where they try to stick with the time line in displaying the midi notes which are currently playing? open and close windows, adjust zoom levels and drag sliders to keep everything in view... thats not how i want to work...

Its probably a user preference and how people think, some options probably doesnt make sense to some where it does to others. I personally like to have 1 global window for all midi events, but it feels reserved in that it works on a global zoom level. The next thing is that it doesnt let me work correctly by the only option in having it display the track selected is by forcing it to follow events under the project cursor, which locks down the notes under the cursor making it impossible to edit during playback

Im on Cubase 5 still, 6 is on its way. i was hoping they would rebuild the interface a little, more towards a 1 in all view, i know ableton live and logic both got docked window and the midi events are displayed in that fashion, there are alot of options under cubase that doesnt make sense to me, basically have to click it try it, just to get a thought from it. ah yes, thats what it does... its german indeed.

i found out, forgetting to turn it off. it's what I assumed, everything in the editor is selected once you hit playback. terrific. by which I mean, 'the horror'.

what I do is select all, open key editor and I have the prefs saying Select Channel/Track on Edit Settings and >90% of the time I'm editing solo. I have key commands set for anything else, it's very simple the way I work. I use list editor a lot, and 'browse project' a lot; the former with midi automation, the latter with other automation. but I have that key editor in one place and I have the windows set to access the key editor just by aiming adequately, key editor takes up like 98% of my whole visual. (I have the project window exposed just above key editor, and key editor exposed just below project window.) I have prefs set to hit enter to get rid of the other editors, list editor... I have it set so the selected track gives me the right automation in browser; so returing to project window or key editor is just a matter of clicking on it; I have all of the windows a particular size I need it to be. I do not want to manage windows in some fancy way and have umpteen workflows. I don't bother with 'workspaces', I don't even know it.

I get on with it wonderfully. I don't get what's supposed to be so clunky about cubase, it's a matter of key commands and macros. (I only have a couple of macros tbh.) except for the no-dock thing, but I host all my plugins on another computer/another monitor and that connects via LAN. I did some things with Reaktor in Cubase recently and it was ugly. I think that would get really old.

no. Midi editors exist for a reason.

I do zoom in and out a lot in both project window and key editor as I do very fine editing.

if you select all and open them in key editor, dont you turn out with a lot of midi notes in that key editor? even overlapping notes...
