...and how to do so...

s'pose this will require complicated programming of
an eeprom/pic/midibox thang...and i've seen some nice-looking
multi MIDI CC boards...

idle thoughts/fantasies of building a hardware controller for
sysex devices...as simple and low-cost as poss'...
any thoughts?

in the past, from computer; thinking about building dedicated
hardware controller>>>>

Might be worth looking at what jupiter8 is doing:

There was also another post recently about some other low-cost DIY controllers, try a search of the hardware and/or DIY forums.

yes, thank you synthgeek :)

mztk, do you mind if I have this moved to the DIY forum?
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

sure, go for it. hadn't considered..

Yeah i'm doing something similar. Anything in particular you're wondering about ?

 :D

what yer got?

no, in fact..well, you know how easy it is to send sysex
from a computer(...well, atari actually, last time i did it),
and how rare things like pg300s seem to be, and what a PITA
it is to program 1u digital pushbutton synths such as tx81z etc.

i read your posts and like the recycling approach. i'm starting
to find good junk in carboot sales too( ha haa, dr550 a while back).
but it looks like it all depends on arduino programming, or pic and
assembly. neither of which i'm, er, conversant with.

Well that is a problem. I did find a ready made PCB with microcontroller and coded ready to go but now i can't find it. It was pretty expensive though 45 dollars or so.

It isn't particulary hard programming but if you haven't programmed before i could see that it is a problem. Arduinos are pretty easy and PICs are not.

You wondered in the other thread if i am going to do midi cc and i haven't really decided yet. To begin with just for testing i think i'll do some quick and dirty midi cc but i plan on doing something more ambitious. Could be OSC or my own protocol. Progress is pretty slow and i've had a serious cold the last week so i haven't felt like doing much of anything.

I much prefer rotaries to potentiometers but then you have the problem of knowing "Where you are" but that is even worse with potentiometers. I have an LCD that should give me the readout for the different parameters. I ordered some stuff yesterday for LED rings a la Nord Lead 3. That should be really slick.

Potentiometers and sliders are easier to implement than rotaries though so that's a plus.

I could write a book about the subject but maybe we should take one step at a time ?

heading over to your thread :D
