Cubase annoyances (zooms and selections)

I have what I wrote. I don't quite follow your question. (I don't have that 'select all under the cursor' thing. I don't edit midi notes during playback.)

I have overlaps horizontally where I made it that way, which amounts to 'legato' in the instruments I send that to, ie., they're set to behave monophonically.

most of the time I'm editing one track at a time (to keep the key editor simple, a track = a part, I don't do 'clips', I would have too many track names in key editor, let's say I have 24 tracks and each contains mutliple parts? No. I want one key editor and deal with the horizontal via markers): "Select Channel/Track on Edit Setting" which is a toggle in key editor, three curved lines icon just to the left of the track name menu.

nah i dont get it, hard to wrap my head around your workflow jan since im new with this sorry, i think there is more than just one option to get it going with a combination of key commands and shortcuts that makes your workflow effective that i have to see to understand. Still not sure if im thinking wrong or that the way i think now will hinder me to get to other places in the future, the program is after all built in a certain way to get you one place, but i dont think there is one definitive way to work with it.

Basically if notes wasnt selected under the project cursor with "Select Events under Cursor" i would have gotten the "effect" i wanted. Now what im trying to do is to replicate it in some other way because it seemed intelligent to me in how i wanted it to operate. Whats troubeling me the most is that when having multiple parts on a track i dont see how i can intelligently work with it in a single key editor window while changing tracks in the background, either parts are not visible in the key editor or things doesnt get updated to the track i change to when having the Key Editor in foreground.

well, the point of describing my workflow, which doesn't have to be anyone's. is that I have all the parts in the one window, all the time. for me, with track = part, 1:1, there's a lot less names in the key editor's list. if I have more than one part in the track, I glue it together just because of that. but if you have different, descriptive names for parts in a track, that's completely different.

I used to have several key editors up under an older system of managing windows but they changed it at C5 or before and now I settled on this. I would work on different sections of a song with different instrumentation, now it's all-in. I never got my head on that workflow in C5, it was a headache, I'm reading a manual written in German translated to English and I don't love reading it.

no, I absolutely require editing individual parts, in the key editor I do that except when I want to move all parts exactly the same, which is rare. It's done with the preference I showed you and what used to be an 'e', meaning solo edit or not, toggle, now it's three curved lines, toggling the editor from all parts to one at a time.

with that toggle in the unlit position, yes, if you have more than one part on the same note, you'd be editing both/all of them. Select Channel/Track on Edit Settings gives you this option. I think it isn't a default preference.

i just thought about gluing everything together too, trying to get something close to how you described your workflow so that it all shows up on the track in the key editor. even tried out the in place editor to see if could manage that some way, hate how the mouse wheel is bound to each part and i cant wheel scroll the project.

there is a preference that addresses how the wheel scrolls as well. I'd have to look. I scroll the project, I would hate being restricted.

the difference between the default prefs and my own is around 30 btw.

but when you are in the key editor how do you then switch between parts on different tracks? do you go back to the project window or can you go to another event on another track being in the key editor?

I may be wrong. I can't find a pref. there is one to make the wheel address fades, but there's still this bug [scrolling up makes lower values ] and it didn't make the wheel fail to scroll the project.

there's a menu with all the track names.

so the blue notes are the selected track, the purple ones are the others.

thats 1 track or whole project? if i do that on my project i get all notes displayed no matter if i select just one part, only the selected part in the list gets a black border around the notes...





you mouse click to select parts?

all the tracks, the blue is the track with the check mark, the others are red or purple in that image.

yeah I click on them or grab the ends which produces a handle for dragging.

correction: there are blue notes there that are in another part but they're fuzzy blue. it's clear to me what the track's notes are. If I click on a note in another track of course that menu box shows that.

the screwy thing is, with that pref unticked I can scroll the fades in the right direction it's just I'm restricted to coarse values

that guy? that's a handle for dragging. don't let it throw you off.

once I'm editing a part I often move forwards or backward by the arrow keys.

you can also choose [preference] to show part border or not. I don't know why you wouldn't.
