Anyone have these and care to comment on the quality? The demos on NI's site, while cheesy, sound very, very good.

Crap. Own them, would never recommend them, never use them. I use WizLive kit out of DR-008 instead. Sounds MUCH better than ALL those kits. I haven't really talked to anyone who's owned them that's happy with them either. RM IV acoustic kits are also better. The drums just sound so 'thin', 'tiny', just... ugh. I keep going back hoping it's my mood, but it's never changed. Not worth the price of admition. How about the NS kit that's floating around for free instead? Haven't loaded it up yet, but it could do the trick.

Synthetic Kit on the other hand is the BOMB! Totally worth it!

The NS kit is... meh... OK. I don't love it. My favorite kits for use in Battery are the free Ambient Kit (available in the Banks/Patches section here... just awesome) and the acoustic kits available in the Steinberg LM4 Kit Connections Acoustic library.

I'd love recommendations for other good kits, regardless of format (Battery handles a lot of them). A lot of sampled kits sound really bad to me (esp. the Drumkit from Hell).

If DFH, which is well loved, you don't like, then what sound are you after exactly? I don't own DFH, but from teh demos, I've liked the sound of it though. Again, personally, I really like the WizLive kit on DR-008, and if you don't have it, I've heard the price is dropping soon. I used the Wizlive kit on my song, Shred Monster. You like that sound at all?

DFH is OK, but just a tad this side of metal-sounding for my tastes. Based on your MP3, that's more your style.

I like the sound of the drums in your file more than what I've heard of DFH, but maybe I should re-evaluate DFH. Too bad I can't *really* demo it (in Battery, on my machine). Most of the demo MP3s aren't in my style.

My favorite drum sounds are Steve Albini/Led Zeppelin/70s type drums sounds -- thick, deep-tuned kits with room tone available in variable ammounts. Kicks should have beef and not be the paper-thin, clicky kicks that people seem to love. Snares should be on the other side of the room from the piccolo snares.

What NS kit are you referring to? NS has been updated to version 7 and it sounds amazing! Each hit has 16 velocity layers, and now it has snare buzz rolls. The Ambient Kit of which you speak has four velocity layers per drum and there's nothing you can do to remove the ambience. ns7 is the clear winner.

Add "ambience" to the ns7 kit. Then you'll have the reverb that you love and 16 velocity layers per drum!

I'll grant you the toms sound much nicer in the ambient kit than in ns7 (and there are three more toms, too). But you can't beat those amazing buzz rolls and grace notes in ns7.

I have used NI studio drums on loads of my recordings. Personally I think they sound great.

When listening to my compositions many people have been suprised that my drums are not real.

I have played drums in bands for many years and although I'm not saying this qualifies me as an expert I would say that I know that NI studio drums certainly aren't crap.

In my opinion the only thing that beats them is bfd ,although drumkit from hell superior is now shipping - I should get mine in a couple of days:)

If you like the demos on NI's site you will probably like studio drums.

NI studio drums are alright, snares are a bit thin-sounding but i believe the kits sound much more realistic than something like wizoo's drumkits (wizoo's kits have always rubbed me the wrong way... sound too mechanical)

That type of guitar playing is being focused over to Sythilix now, yes. I do a LOT of styles though, metal being one of them. Yes I do have a website, but no more of those types of songs though right now.

Why not start the d/l before you go to bed then judge yourself. You KNOW that 10 ppl will say yes and 10 will say no. Look at this thread alone.
