Would it be hypocritical of me to post some generated memes?
I'm finding it so hard to resist right now.

I can't believe what's going on in this thread. I started it a couple of weeks ago and then left it alone. Now I come back and it's exploded.
It's gone completely off track but I guess it's good exposure for Urs.
Remember, this thread wasn't a thread about digital vs. analog. This thread was mainly a question of how much you value Diva as a synth.
If you were to line all your synth software boxes up against a wall, along with your collection of analog synths, someone held a gun to your head and said "smash all but one", would you have a hard time deciding between Diva and some of your analog synths as the last one? (Remember for this thought experiment to work, you have to pretend that you'll never be able to get your hands on any of the smashed synths ever again).
I would keep the analog synth with the highest resale value, sell it, buy Diva and have a bunch of cash left over...

Must have missed that bit...If you were to line all your synth software boxes up against a wall, along with your collection of analog synths, someone held a gun to your head and said "smash all but one", would you have a hard time deciding between Diva and some of your analog synths as the last one? It's easy to answer though - there's no s/w synth on earth yet that would replace for me any of the better analogues. There are quite a few very good s/w VAs, but if it's a choice between playing a real all in one synth with real knobs to twiddle, a juicy analogue filter that can be abused with real musical distortion rather than digital squealing, and loading up a DAW, twatting around with a mouse, finding the Panadol to sort out the RSI, trying to ignore adverts to enliven my penis that constantly flash up - I really really would pick a real physical h/w synth. Don't get me wrong, I do love plenty of s/w synths, but so many of these threads just don't get it - it's not all about the sound. Every synth on earth sounds different to every other one - Diva can do things some analogues can't do, and plenty of analogues can do stuff Diva can't do, but ultimately some of us actually like playing on real keyboards with dedicated knobs as well as the sound.
Comparing them is quite silly. Would you rather play a sample xylophone set on Kontakt with a mouse in a dingy studio. Or would you rather play on Posh Beckham's ribcage with a real drumstick on a real satin-sheeted emperor sized bed while Dave's out playing?

Hahaha! I'm working at a cool company which has quite some of these highly sought of machines hanging around. Checking them out is quite some fun. But I would not want to have to go through the hassle to use them for making music.pdxindy wrote:I would keep the analog synth with the highest resale value, sell it, buy Diva and have a bunch of cash left over...
So my answer is that it would be Diva that's left over after that shootout. And even better: this situation is hypothetical so that I can use a few synths like Zebra and Ace, too.

How 'bout a hardware version of Diva with high resolution pots and a nice dynamic keyboard? There's rumours that stuff like that is a future possibility...kritikon wrote:playing on real keyboards with dedicated knobs as well as the sound.

No, but we've tidied up the storage room and set up a soldering ironstandalone wrote:Have you bought Arturia Urs?
That said, chacka is mostly working on the Musikmesse showcase (apart from support). But who knows, if it's viable we'll build some. Control Surfaces are a major topic for us in the near future, and looking at Mario's amazing work on synth-project.de, I see no reason not to use our resources to do stuff like that - provided we can come out even, or maybe raise a little profit. Depends on demand, part cost and a bunch of yet unforeseeable factors.
The Arturia concept is something completely different. Their Origin is a rather complex modular synth with a universal control surface selling from store shelves, while we're interested in a dedicated solution for Diva, ACE and maybe Zebra, possibly built to order.

I'll never be able to afford something like that but it's cool nontheless!
Is that a part of one of the two big news?
Cheers

Very cool! Hilariously expensive might be out of my reach but it sounds like a productive challenge. Hand-made would be great in a market where IMHO a lot of it doesn't even seem made for hands.Urs wrote:I forgot to mention, hand made and probably hilariously expensiveBronto Scorpio wrote:Urs wrote:How 'bout a hardware version of Diva with high resolution pots and a nice dynamic keyboard?
