I would like an arp to use for basslines, the more 'natural' it can get the better, basically something to stick a groove to what i play live, and have that output recorded in midi so playback later without the arp.

Have a look at the wonderful -and FREE- Kirnu!

Post

Personally, I prefer Catanya. It's just lovely :)

Oh those are both great suggestions, I grabbed Kirnu straight away but I'll keep Catanya in mind as it may be exactly what I'm after, just I'm on a budget :) Any other suggestions would be appreciated too. I plan to get both Scarbee's Jazz Guitarist and Rob Papen's SG at some point too, these types of instruments intrigue me and I've been learning to program Strum and find that very rewarding.

I'm having difficulty with getting Kirnu to do anything, it 'works' at times but the controls seem unresponsive, they don't seems to alter anything, and sometimes it plays and other not. What am I missing? i haven't read the manual (is there one?) but it doesn't look like i'm missing anything settings-wise.

I don't personally know anything about Kirnu, but I suggest you should also tell what DAW you use. IIRC, Catanya has problems with some DAW's, while running flawlessly in FL Studio. All you have to do is set up the midi output in Catanya and midi input in instrument you want it to send the signal towards at.

Meanwhile the notes or chords will be set to Catanyas sequencer, instead of the VSTi you send the signals towards at. Maybe that is your problem?

Yeah catanya is definitely my next purchase, it is slick and just what I wanted. Thanks again!

This looks really interesting too:

I can already see creating chords with the W2 harmonizer and feeding them to Strum and getting something else out of that. I think I'm getting both soon, I'm really impressed.

No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

About catanya and harmonizer; they are both 32-bit, no 64-bit and I keep reading posts about the creator not responding to mails. It seems to be abandonware. Watch out before you invest money.

Here is a good alternative for Harmonizer:

It's donationware and the creator responds quick and releases updates. In my opinion he deservers your money more...

And yes, by using a harmonizer and an arp, you can create impressive melodies by using one finger at a time.

Cool, I just downloaded it and it seems solid, thanks for pointing that out. It doesn't seem to have the scale feature of W2 Harmonizer. I'm on 32 bit still so I don't know how important that is, won't 32 bit plugs still be usable with a bridge?

About the 32-bit stuff; some plugins can't be bridged to 64-bit, they crash. Unfortunatley, I have read that catanya crashes. Haven't tried it myself...

Insert Piz Here doesn't have the scale feature, true. But on the other hand, with midichorder you can create any chord you want. But I have to admit, I don't know anything about all those exotic scales.
