Good arpaggiator that works with any VSTi?

Well I think the idea is you don't need to know anything much, the app creates the chords to fit the scale, and then you can use that scale as the basis for your composition. It is cheating
so that interests me. But the plugin did just crash and bring Reaper down when exiting the demo period. Anyhow I can fiddle with the demo for both these plugins and render the midi and disable the plugs, so I can see over some time if they are stable enough and add to my creativity as expected.

You should give Corona a try. It can output MIDI to any other VST as well as hardware.braj wrote:I would like an arp to use for basslines, the more 'natural' it can get the better, basically something to stick a groove to what i play live, and have that output recorded in midi so playback later without the arp.

Catanya is really fun to use. There are loads of presets in various genres. I use it with the animated bass presets in FXPansions Fusor to get some really interesting bass lines. Using it on anything in Alchemy with the remix pads is dance heaven. Catanya is so straight forward to use in Reaper it really is worth buying IMO.
Catanya doesn't have the versatility of Arp by HGSounds though. I would buy that in an instant if it had more bread and butter presets for dance music. Some of the presets are usable but others are too off the wall for my style of music. I'd also prefer a preset browser like Catanya has where you can search through presets according to certain criteria e.g music genre. In fact I wish all vsti's would adopt Catanya's approach. I know it's not an exact science but as a guideline I find it really helpful.
If you use a lot of arpeggiated sounds then Catanya is incredibly useful and is a great tool for inspiring new and unimagined riffs. Arp has the potential for some incredible sounds but I didn't find it straight forward and spontaneous to use so I'm sticking with Catanya for now.

Another +1 for arp. I actually find using the randomize on the notes and tweaking a bit to be the best with it. It seems usually the randomize comes up with some more basic patterns that whats in the presets, so they are usually more useful for dance styles

[tip]... place it on a track and set it to 'receive' midi from another "arp" or "chord sequencer", for simple-to-complex variation(s) on whatever the "source" is outputting. I use it mainly for 'doubling' with some nuance, but it can do a lot more.
The manual is concise, and the dev is really cool.

I emailed 7Aliens a few months ago (November IIRC) regarding 64-bit and received a prompt reply stating that they are working on 64-bit. That said, I agree that they should get on the ball and finish it because Catanya doesn't bridge, so it's useless for anybody on 64-bit.manducator wrote:About catanya and harmonizer; they are both 32-bit, no 64-bit and I keep reading posts about the creator not responding to mails. I'm using Catanya in Reaper 4 x64 on Win 7 x64 and everything seems to work fine.cryophonik wrote:I emailed 7Aliens a few months ago (November IIRC) regarding 64-bit and received a prompt reply stating that they are working on 64-bit. The Corona arp looks cool. But why oh why do they have no per step tie for glides? Why do so many arps still leave this out? Synth1, Albino, Zebra, Rob Papen synths, FM8, Alchemy can all seem to do it. However I've still not found a single arp that sends midi out that can do it. All it would require would be an automatic slight overlap of the previous note and you set the destination instrument to mono legato. Kirnu may be able to do it actually I think it has a note length, will have to check it out further...

Really?! Are you using jbridge, or does Reaper have its own bridge? I've tried using Catanya with 64-bit Sonar and S1v2 and nada.munchkin wrote:I'm using Catanya in Reaper 4 x64 on Win 7 x64 and everything seems to work fine.cryophonik wrote:I emailed 7Aliens a few months ago (November IIRC) regarding 64-bit and received a prompt reply stating that they are working on 64-bit. I think Reaper has its own bridge because I just installed Catanya in my VST folder and it was ready to use in Reaper. Works like a charm like all my other 32bit VST/VSTi including UAD/Powercore plugins.cryophonik wrote:Really?! Are you using jbridge, or does Reaper have its own bridge? Catanya is really working for me, even with the demo limitations it is very handy and I think I'll stick with that for now. The ability to easily render the arps to midi overcomes the demo restrictions also, so when I am sure I really am getting some value out of it I'll purchase. I am not making dance music so some of the other arps are maybe too specific or their UI is not conducive to the way I work, at least so far as I can figure out how to use these plugs
Catanya also has the distinction for being very close to Caitanya, who is an incarnation of God according to my faith
so maybe that's a sign!
