I just had a problem with none of my midi gear working in windows 7 (both spd-sx usb and m-audio audiophile midi) I could see the midi devices but nothing worked. Midi-OX would give me an Undefined External error.

Fortunately, this article worked for me.

This should be a sticky somewhere in the forum. It might be of help to someone.

Cheers!

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

It was already in my system though - the ksthunk.

I had problems when running Studio One 2 and an UC33 controller with that exact problem - you can define an external device but never get any data. Studio One actually made it unusable in the system as such if S1 was started.

But no problems with other software like Sonar and Reaper - if not starting Studio One.

Searching through registry further this device is referenced from HDAUDIO among others,

Thanks anyway.

I just posted it cuz it seemed like a general type of problem and a musician's nightmare. No one wants to re-install their 2 years old window. I'm too comfortable now.

Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully i will remember it whenever i move to Win7, as i have an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O. Any idea what those things are that the article instructs to change?

Hi Jace,

Don't touch anything in the registry. This was last resort for me cuz my midi wasn't working at all even though the drivers were working A1. So if you don't have any prob, don't touch anything. If you have a prob, make sure that you exhaust all possible causes before modifying anything.

I don't think it just related to m-audio specifically cuz my Roland spd-sx wasn't working either but the audio part of the driver was fine. The spd-sx acts both has a midi controller and an audiocard at the same time.

I don't know if it's the servicepack updates that fixed it on my system or an installer from 3rd party software - but doing windows update is a wise thing to do I think.

Nice of you to share it with us anyhow. :)

PM a mod and ask them to move it to the computer forum and make it a sticky...if they do not want to do that have them move it to the diy forum and I'll make it a sticky :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Thanks, will download. I notice the commercial Chirp virtual keyboard software comes bundled with LoopBe30, the commercial version of the first one. I tried the Chirp demo which looked good but messed with my PC a bit.
