That's what I thought too, but I thought Urs was looking into the possibility of making a commercially affordable and available controller with someone other than Synth-Project.

I must have made it up in my mind due to too much wishful thinking...sorry!

As far as I know he only makes them for himself......
Yes, thats right sorry. But the answer is easy. Nobody would pay the price for such a controller. I think, the way Urs goes, is the better way.

Erm, may I ask how much it cost you to build the Poly-Ana controller by way of example? I'd like to get an idea of what goes through your creations...

Hehe you chose the most expensive controller i've built. Only for the parts about 2200 €.
And don't say its crazy, i know this.

Its a hobby and there are no limits. :)

I think it depends on the amount of electronics and the quality of parts you have in it. A touch screen makes it rather expensive, as does the choice of pots. We're currently experimenting with 13€-a-pop pots, which makes for a considerable impact at 50+ knobs.

We're also working on an Arduino-based controller, which makes it cheaper than off-the-rack Doepfer MIDI controllers, and more flexible (higher resolution, feedback options, cables).

But what makes it really expensive is the sheer work. Even after all R&D the whole panel has to be soldered with 2-4 connections, both sides of the wire, per control. It's tedious work, even if PCBs are outsourced (40-100€ per piece). And that's without casing. Mario's casings look like pure art and certainly cost weeks of work...

(by "we" I mean u-he guys... I find Mario's work very inspiring, and thus we're trying to develop some stuff in that direction)

Oh I don't know. I came two numbers away from winning 320 Million dollars in the Lottery a couple of days ago and if I ever get those two extra numbers I'll look you up......... :hihi:

Gosh. How long did it take to build?

€800 under what I expected, and possibly bang on the price of €4500-5000 when everything is considered.

Come on lottery tickets...don't let me down!

Synth-Project - can you throw an estimate on how much would it approximately cost to build a controller in your style for OLGA (except with a 5 octave keyboard, and perhaps a display for current patch and several extra buttons for patch selection - I'd likely put a mini-PC inside the controller with mini WinXP or something and run OLGA inside Savihost or something).

I'm gonna start saving up... :)

Couldn't you just get something like this:

and this:

Super glue them together and put a cardboard box round them with a print out of the DIVA interface on it?

So much cheaper...

Sure, if you want a hacky job. :D

Its depends how many parameter you want to control. Up to 64 or above. I dont know the OLGA Synth.
